Hi All,
Apologies in advance if this is a repeat post, but I currently have a 2008 987.1 3.4s currently on the factory halogen headlight bulbs and I am looking to upgrade to LED bulbs if possible. I am sure by now that this has been a beneficial upgrade and so I would appreciate any advice on which LED bulbs to upgrade to that don't cause any unnecessary error messages being triggered. There are a number of suggestions on YouTube, but mostly from the US so hopefully you can help.
Many thanks for you time.

LED/HID bulbs use a different type of projector housing to halogen bulbs. The MOT regulations used to be a fail for fitting LED bulbs into housings that weren't made for them, they’ve now removed that but put in a failure point if the beams don’t meet the correct cutoffs.

My advice would be to order some Philips Ultinon LED bulbs from Amazon - try them and get your local MOT station to check them for you, that way you can return them easily to Amazon should they not be right. In my experience the Ultinon bulbs have the best cutoff of the LEDs but even so they will still be in the wrong housings.

Hi Eldavo
Appreciate the feedback - I will check out Amazon. I wasnt aware of the MoT issue relating to the cut-off.
Many thanks for the advice.

First, as mentioned above, there are no Type Approved LED kits for post 1986 cars so fitting LEDs could result in an MOT fail.
Second, the fully enclosed housing on 987s may cause heat to build up, shortening life of the unit. You should select a bulb with a cooling fan.
Third, there is a risk that the change will cause bulb failure messages to be thrown up, see https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/b...eVsKyKdD7BlLKkyCFxSpDCoMWbREhMIsX_vXhkBIVynDF.

If you are still sure you want to fit LEDs, go for reputable brand. Something like OSRAM LEDriving XTRs may work.

First of all thanks for your feedback Ian, I will most likely just go for an improved halogen bulb and save myslef the cost and trouble.
Improved halogen bulb tech seems to have moved on significantly and are spec'd for the bulb type fitted.
