987-1 TIPTRONIC GEAR SELECTOR ISSUE

Hi

I have a 2005 987 3.2s tiptronic. I've noticed that after I've been driving for a while the gear selector becomes very stiff to move, and the feel of the gear selection becomes very vague.

Has anyone else come across this issue at all?

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

Jim,
There are other posts on this subject, I have personally made at least a couple. Please have another look around.

You may find that the selector problem is related to poorly lubricated or worn joints in the mechanism.
Certainly heat soak plays a part - I find my system, despite having been repaired, does get difficult to operate when warm.

Failure will leave you stranded and with a bill from an OPC of around £600, less from an independent, all for a couple of cheap bits of plastic.
Suggest you get your linkages looked at and take it from there.

Andrew

Thank you very much for the pointers, will certainly have another look around the forum.

I'm also aware that there was a recall on the selector bearing sleeves, so I guess my first port of call ought to be to contact my local OPC to try and verify if the recall fix was ever carried out on the car?

Call me a cynic, but I don't hold out much hope of the information being offered willingly without a fight!

Regards

Jim

my opc looked and looked then jzm(indi) checked and greased linkage-prob still there so ended up replacing aforementioned plastic bits and charged me £250(or £5-600 at opc!).all sorted and no probs after

Thanks. I've been in touch with the main stealer, and according to them my car wasn't affected by the recall on this issue(?)

I've heard good things about Autostrasse in Colchester, so will book it in to them to sort.

Thanks again for all the help, it really is very much appreciated.

Cheers

Jim
