987.2 gets a second window regulator.

Just finished fitting the passenger side regulator.
I replaced the driver's side a few years ago, but last weekend The Boss dropped her window down and was met with a shreek and a grind and a crunch and the window stopped dead, solid 3/4 down.
Stripped it all out and the failure was the same as the driver's side, rusted bowden cable.

Usual faff getting it all apart, clips, wire, more clips and more wires and 8 broken door card clips.
Disconnected the battery before dis-connecting the air bag gas cylinder.

Ordered a new one and 10 clips from Design911 and they arrived today.

Again, lots of messing about with ungainly parts, but all ok.

Astonishingly, the window glass aligned correctly and the drop on opening the door is a nice 12mm, far better than the driver's door!

However....

The on-shot to raise the glass does not work, ok if you hold the switch. One-shot down is good.

Have I missed something?

I’m sure that you’ve done the window reset thing Graham [hold the switch up to close the window, release and hold it up again], but it maybe worthwhile giving it another go. If that doesn’t fix it perhaps there’s a fault with the new module, assuming that it contains the window operation logic? Unfortunately I can’t think of any way to check that out with running some diagnostics or fitting a replacement unit.☹️

I think that there are a couple of microswitches in the door but don’t know if they affect the one-shot window function.

Edit: I don’t know if it’s relevant but it seems that there are microswitches located in the door lock mechanism:


I suppose it’s possible that you disturbed the connection while replacing the regulator?

That is possible Jeff!
The inner panel dropped while getting it free and the loom to the door lock was 'stretched'...
To set the windows I took the window from bottom to top (door open, lock open too) and held the switch up for a long 5 seconds.
Took the window down and when bottomed, held the switch down for a long 5 secs.

Did that twice.

Maybe I should do it with the door closed.
Will try that again.

Central locking and glass drop (when you open the door) all good which is why I think the door lock is ok.

Will try on monday when we have finished racing!
 
All done now.
The windows work correctly, driver's 2 switches can do all the functions, the passenger side, one shot down and hold the switch up to the top.
Normal apparently!

The skid control light went out with slow forward, lock to lock, and that is good.

Just got to win a fight with my Skoda's blower motor now and the fleet will be functional once more....
 
Looking at page #20 of the Driver’s Manual for my 987.2 Cayman there’s no mention of any difference between the driver’s and passenger’s one-touch operation Graham, both of which it states have a two-stage function.

One thing to note is that under the heading Readiness for operation of power windows it says:

One-touch operation for closing the door windows is available only when the ignition is switched on.

Something to check anyway, although it’s odd that the driver’s side is working satisfactorily. At least you’re able to open and close the passenger’s window successfully even if it’s not quite working as expected, and I wouldn’t have thought that it’s worth the faff of stripping it all down again.

I did the window setting while driving the car.
Wife ok without one-shot closing so all is ok!
Definitely will not be stripping it again to dig deeper.

Next doors told me is Renault van does one shot down, hold to raise, his daughters 2 year old Peugeot is the same.
 
I guess that it’s very much a tin-top vs rag-top situation Graham but my aircon is always switched on, summer and winter, and I very rarely - if ever - open the driver’s window let alone the passenger’s window since invariably I’m solo. I’ll have to check the operation of both the next time I’m in the car.

Out in the car for a run to Shrewsbury for coffee today and to get a few Brownie-Points to replace a lot lost recently....

The passenger window is one-shot Down and also UP plus intermittent drop/up etc, just as both switches on the driver's side. Fully tested by Trish.

The manual also states this is correct, but I'm weak at reading, let alone Manuals!!

So, all is good.

Wheels could do with a good strip and re-powder coating and there are stone chips on the driver's sill.
Never ends.

Saw a Toyota GR 85 yesterday, now that was nice, wife spotted it first.
 
Ha,ha! False alarm then Graham, and pleased to hear that it’s working as expected.

More jobs! Older cars ... don’t ya just love ’em.🙄

I was eyeing-up the GR 85 and actually was offered one by Toyota [I have a GR Yaris … a bonkers machine!] but declined because I’m rather attached to my Cayman and there wouldn’t be any point in owning both. It looks like a great little car: handy size, interesting handling and more than adequate performance for our congested roads. Full factory 12-year warranty too if you have it serviced by a Toyota dealer … none of this Porsche Extended Warranty rubbish!
