Apologies if this is a daft question but what is the latest Firmware for the PCM 3.0 fitted to my car. Current is V2.24. Also is it possible A, to identify which map you have and B. to update it?
Which are the latest updates, both Firmware & mapping. American sites refer to firmware V4 + and 2019 mapping but a m struggling in the UK. Finally, I have heard rumours of a Classic PCM replacement which adds Bluetooth audio. I currently have a Bovee 1000 which works really well for adding that feature but I am interested in an upgrade and current mapping.

All advice and info most welcome.

Thanks.

there is a 2.25 version. not seen what it offers not seen a source of it

Maps are upgradable. Latest available I think are 2019 ( files are actually 2018 ).

rumour has it that a new release is due soon.

350 ish from opc. needs A code. 100 ish from “a Russian“ and needs someone with a piwis system to input the codes (once the disk images are available)

I am hoping that pccm plus comes to all 987 this year (although only talked about for gen 1) but if I was thinking opc route for maps I would save my money with a view to pccm plus if that became a thing.

v4 firmware is for pcm3.1 (981 onwards)

there is a key sequence to give you update history that cab Tell you map version. - will try and dig it out later.

press Info and Source together.

on that screen is the firmware version. There is a history button. That shows the maps version and any updates. If it’s blank then the car is running the map version it shipped with but I suspect yours will have had an update since 2.24 gives you 7 digit postcodes and that requires newer than “shipped” versions.

On my PCM 3.1 I have never managed to get it to show any history of map updates, even though it has been updated. None of the OPCs I have asked about this have had a clue either. The only way I have found to prove that the maps have been updated is to drive around and see what's on the map that wasn't on the previous version, or indeed things showing on the map that aren't there any longer (mostly petrol stations).

Hi again,

Further to my earlier post in this thread, i have been in touch with two of my local OPC's Wolverhampton, who simply have not responded to my questions at all and Solihull, who have come back a couple of times but with some disturbing comments regarding possible total failure of the PCM system if they attempt an upgrade.

I quote:

Afternoon Jerry,

Sorry for the delay, Looking at the price for the new update and installation costs it would come to £355.26 inc VAT. My Workshop controller has advised that with some of these updates it may well be too much for the PCM and worst case could require a new one.

Let me know your thoughts.

Followed by:

Sorry for the delay I was waiting for my parts department to come back with the information on the date of the update.

It is a 2018 update that is the last one available.

Yes in cases some of them will not physically update and can cause them to crash and no longer restart after doing so, Its not something we can guarantee but from experience it is something that we have to make you aware of.

Whilst I appreciate that Solihull actually came back to me with useful information and frank honesty, I am amazed that Porsche would offer an upgrade that could damage their own equipment. Fine if you are messing with hacked software or mapping but genuine OEM packages installed by an OPC? Really?

Does anyone have experience this upgrade, positive or negative?

Does anyone get responses from Porsche Wolverhampton? Solihull is less convenient for me but i know where I will direct my future Porsche OPC business.

Finally, I understand from Rennsport.com that PCCM+ for 987 is due in 2022. Does anyone hav eany further info. i know it will be pricy but offers a lot in the way of facilities.

PCCM+ for the 987 coming in 2022

Well, our wish has come true. Ulrike Lutz, director of Porsche Classic has announced they will be releasing a redesigned version of the PCCM+ for 997 and 987 cars as early as 2022. I have just asked for info from OPC Solihull and await feedback.

The pcm stores it’s maps and it’s operating system on a hard drive. As such these are now 10 + years old. They spin all the time and they get bounced about in a car.

the update process requires 3 or 4 Dvds to be inserted and read.

if You don’t use the CD player much then reading dvds might take a few attempts. The wrong failure at the wrong time could cause a problem For the unit I guess.

that said. I have had the maps upgraded in both my current and my previous 987.2.

no issues in either case. assuming the hard drive doesn’t die completely i would hope porsche could perform a recovery in the event of a corruption during update but i suspect this opc is being over cautious.

whilst the newer software gives full postcode search and newer maps are better the lack of decent life traffic and some strange routing decisions make it “ok” at best - compared to phone or dedicated sat navs.

PCCM plus is interesting however from what I have read it’s only 2006 to 2008 model years that have been mentioned in the ”announcement“ so 9x7.1 models that currently have pcm 2 units.

never say never of course and it would be very annoying to pay full price for the upgrade only for either newer maps or pccm+ to be available.

Thanks Paul,

Very helpful. I might try mailing Porsche in Germany re the PCCM+ as it looks like a good option if becoming available.
