Hi,

I was thinking of putting a K & N or similar in my 2006 987 2.7.

Anyone got any thoughts or experience as to whether it's worth doing?

Thanks

Nick

you could desnorkle , like a lot of the americans do, by removing the baffle plate - some say it improves matters, others say fuel consumption drops like a plumb bob. You also run the risk of ingress by removing the baffle, so its not my preference.

K&Ns don;t achieve an awful lot - a bit more noise, and maybe, maybe 5bhp !

K&N = waste of time

De-snorkel - Did it on my 2.5 & 3.2 S Boxsters - More induction noise, no negative effects whatsoever.

I donlt have an issue with the desnorkle on a 986, but on the 987 it involves removing the baffle plate on the passenger side air vent completely, which fully exposes the air intake tube to water etc. Given that the factory just allow a small 2mm gaop around this plate for air intake its a lot more risky on an 987. Just my opinion [;)]

Look at the air intake vent behind the passenger door - behind the grille you will see what appears to be a solid blanking plate, black plastic (there is actually a small gap around the plate to allow air past it) - you can remove this plate which effectively exposes the end of the air intake tube hidden behind the plate to the open air and the elements, water spray and your hosepipe !. The air intake tube is very short, the other end of it being the air filter casing and then the air flow meter.
