987 Boxster key stuck in ignition

The battery on my 2006 2.7 Boxster went completely flat a few weeks ago. After jump starting it I was not able to remove the key from the ignition and had to use the wire tool to get it out. I charged the battery up again and still had the same issue with the key. Today the battery was down again despite being on a trickle charger so I have replaced the battery but I still cannot remove the key from the ignition and have to use the wire tool. I would really appreciate any help or advice you can give.
Many Thanks,
Steph

Sorry to hear about your predicament Steph.

Maybe there's a problem with the lock barrel itself. This link may be of some use:

Thanks Jeff. I did see that post about the 996 but it seems as though the ignition switch was updated with the introduction of the 997/987 and it's not going to be a diy job to replace it. Looks like I will be visiting my OPC this weekend :(
