987 door card

Has anyone removed the speaker grill/doorcard on a 987, it's different from the 986. It seems to baffle most people and I want to change the speakers []

While on the subject, does anyone ever upgrade speakers on Porsche?

Hi Keith
Have you got a 'sound plus' system or just the basic?
I have 'sound plus' and was hugely disappointed with it and wanting to change the speakers and put in an ipod connection.
My previous car had a BOSE and the difference was huge.
I took this car to Cartonics in Byfleet and they installed a Mobridge unit, which means you can connect an Ipod that acts as a CD changer with a massive music library.

But the best thing about it was the huge improvement in sound over the Radio/single CD player which makes a speaker upgrade unnecessary.
I would have paid good money to upgrade the speakers at the same time, when I was in the shop, but Cartronics advised me that it would be very expensive to improve the sound and not produce much improvement.
The Mobridge cost £495 fitted the same day, but well worth the money.
I find it sounds best without the 'loudness' on.

Thanks for the replies guys, but firstly, the post on the planet 9 site are for the older car's and I'm not looking to upgrade the head unit or add an ipod, just change the speakers. Can't believe it's so difficult and very frustrating [&:]

Thanks again though.

Don't give up yet!
Here's how I changed mine....note you may get away with not ordering the grille blanks (which is the biggest expense and faff) just order the speakers and see if they fit the originals first (that's if you're not bothered about returning to stock at a later date)

Thanks Rodney, but my issue is not the changing of the speakers that's a problem, but removing the grilles! They are in two parts on a 987, one part door card on the 986. It should be easier, or so you would think, to remove just the plastic speaker cover section, but it appears no one seems to know know!

I'll guess I'll have to consult my local OPC [&:]

Sorry Keith, I didn't realise it was a problem on the 987, on the 9*6 it's just a matter of loosening some allen bolts.
Why not give JMG a call mentioned in the thread as they were supplying a sound upgrade package on the 9*6 they may have done the same thing for the 9*7?

Have just spoken to JMG and then saw your post. They seem the obvious choice as they have assured me that they know what they are doing. Tools and knowledge are essential in this case [:)]

Here's a pic of what i mean, it looks so straighforward! But then it is a Porsche afterall [&:]
