987 gearchange

How smooth should the change be on my 2006 my 987 2.7? Whilst it's fairly slick, if not a little slow going up, changing down can be awkward, especially 3-2. Is this indicative of a 'cable' change or should I get the boy's at Cambridge OPc to look at it when it goes in for an oil service following it's winter hibernation?

There have been cases of 2nd gear failing in the gearbox on some early cars, selection of second can also be an issue when cold if a short shift is fitted. The linkage is cable operated so I would expect the issue to be with more than one gear if its a case of a stretched cable or misalignment. Unless the gear linkage has been removed for a clutch change or repair I would bee surprised if its an alignment issue. The gear linkage failed on my own car a few years back but there was no prior indication of a difficult gear change before it failed. The cable just simply snapped at the gearbox end where the rigid rod section joined onto the flexible section. The gear linkage cable has a revised design so its probably worth checking out the cable anyway. There is a simple plastic clip available from porsche that sets the linkage in the factory position on the change lever, you can then undo and retension the cables into the linkage to ensure its the correct alignment. The clip costs a few pounds , your OPC will list it as a lock bridge.

Thanks for the info Bert [:)] I'll get Cambridge OPC to have a look when it goes in for it's oil change and check. Ta
