987 Hardtop

I'm thinking about buying a new hardtop for my 987 Boxster. Anyone hard much experience with them? I'm thinking about putting a hoist in the garage above the car to store it when not in use. Do they rub any paintwork when installed from any bodyflex?

Never had any issues with flexing or rubbing on my old 986 - not sure they are worth the effort though unless the car is kept outside.

We've had four Boxsters, each with a factory fitted hardtop.

Probably not essential on the latest models, but we like the 'look' and extra security it gives the car through the winter months.

By contrast, I think the 996/7 Cab hardtop looks wrong.

Best time to buy would be in the summer.

IMO the best thing about a hardtop is the 1 extra positive feedback you'll get once you've sold it on Ebay.

If you garage your car, the only real benefit is the sense of reassurance you will feel when leaving it parked on the road, knowing the soft top won't get slashed (although of course the hardtop itself could get keyed). When the car flexes it makes an annoying creaking sound too, and takes a fair bit of space on the garage when standing upright.

Save yourself the money and get a sports exhaust instead...sheer joy every time.

Sound Advice [:D][:D][:D]

When i bought my 986 it came with the hard-top as that was part of my buying criteria. At first i thought it was great, but once i took it off i have never put it back on. It's a real pain to take off (needs two people) and also takes up quite a bit of storage. I also don't like the look of the car with it on. As previously mentioned it also creeks when flexing, especially in very cold weather.

Having said that i think the 987 looks better with the hard-top than the 986 - the design seems to be alot more flattering to the look of the car.

Ahhh, the sports exhaust. Yes I'd like one of these but which one is suitable for an Aug 05 987???

I got mine from these people on Ebay + 2 hours fitting.

(Unfortunately for you, for some reason the 987 sports exhaust is much pricier than all the other models)[:-]

I'd gladly give up all the nonesense extras on my car just for this single item! [:D]
