987 Tyre replacement

Noticed that my rear tyres have reached the tread wear indicator, and called into my OPC today to order replacements. Fronts were replaced about 6k miles ago and are showing little wear. I was informed, as discussed elsewhere on this site, that replacement Continentals were hard to obtain and that the OPC would have to contact Reading. A couple of hours later I received a call from the OPC to inform me that as they could not get Continentals they had been authorised to fit 4 new Bridgestones, the fronts being funded by Porsche, and that they would receive them next week! I have to say I was impressed at the quick response but was not aware that Porsche fitted or had approved Bridgestones. Does anyone on here have them and if so how do they compare with Continental or Michelin?

Hi Stewartu

I have had the same problem with my 06 Boxster, I had the Bridgestone fitted 4 weeks ago and I'm very happy with them much less road noise than my Mitchelins, and they handle no worse, by friends just got approval to have his Continentals swapped for Brigestones, I had to pay £530 for 4 Bridgestone 19inch tyres which I thought was resaonable, hope this helps

Thanks for the information Tommo. I guess I will see how they compare next week. Don't know the price yet but am not expecting it to be any worse than the Continentals, which to be honest seem to wear quickly. Have now checked and see that indeed Bridgestone are Porsche approved so I am happy to have them fitted.

Hi, I collected my 987 from Zuffenhausen about 6 weeks ago and it has Bridgestone tyres fitted. I can't really make a comparison as my previous Boxster was a 986. All I can say is that I didn't think the handling could get much better, but have been proved wrong [:D]

I have just replaced the fronts on my 987 they are Conti Sport 2 NO 205x 55 x17x 91Y but was told by some tyre dealers that they are no longer available ,but managed to get them as I wanted to keep the same type all round they cost £220 fitted and balanced and then went and got the wheel alignment done at a specialist, toe in castor camber the works all for £55 as they where out by quite a bit .now feels so much better
