987S Hardtop Road Noise

I'm looking at replacing my 03S with a Cayman or 996. One of the considerations is the road noise on long business trips being reduced with a tintop.
Can anyone tell me if there is there a noticable difference in roadnoise between 987 with hood or hardtop fitted?
Finding hard to justify premium for Cayman.....

I drive a 986 with a hardtop and can't say that it makes any appreciable difference to the road noise - that tends to come from the tyres and through the body. There may be a slight improvement in wind noise, but it's not so dramatic that I would say it's a must have. The most significant advantage that I use the hardtop for is the heated rear window in the winter - not applicable to MY03 on.

I fully concur with Andy's comments.

Can be another set of squeaks and creaks to worry about!

JCB..

I like the hardtop on the Boxster. It gives the car three very different 'looks' - hood up, hood down and hardtop.

It does make the interior quieter and better insulated, but noise from the tyres and road surfaces is much the same.

Early cars did have the occasional creaking from the hardtop seals. The latest cars are much better.

I thought the hardtop did nmake a difference on motorway journeys on my 986. The 987 is a noisier car, especially the exhaust [:D] so if noise bothers you in a 986 it certainly will in a 987
