First pictures of new 2012 coupe caught testing in Spain

May 2011

These are the best pictures yet "¨of Porsche's all-new Cayman. Spied undergoing hot-weather testing in Spain, it's clear to "¨see that the second-generation coupé will stand out more than the current car, with a larger rear window and lower overall profile giving it a sleeker shape.

The new glass hatch should also boost practicality, by increasing luggage space and access. Every other body panel "¨is new, with an evolution of the 911-style nose at the front.

Under the skin, the Cayman is identical to the all-new Boxster drop-top. Both cars go on sale next year, featuring revised suspension, a higher-quality cabin and new engines

Hmmm ... interesting shape ... would like to see more. But what do we think about the smaller engines and turbo's? Is this the influence of VW starting to show through?

Looks a bit more like a 911 with the new rear line over the hatch, it will allow a little more luggage room to the rear but if the engine cover can be made lower due to the smaller engine then maybe a larger luggage deck in the rear will increase the capacity/capability. In the 944s there was an incredible capacity with a flat deck. Personally I like the original line and capacity is really enough for two up touring unless your other half has to take everything! Having said that, I could carry some pretty large items in the front engined cars so for practicality a revised engine cover if possible could improve that. I'm hoping Gen 3 doesn't change the rear roof line so much, by the time it's in production I'm sure it will look great. I saw some photos of the new Boxster on road test, think it was on the Planet 9 site, some querky changes such as the boot lid but very nice overall.
