'99 Boxster Alarm setting issue

Hi folks

I have just bought a '99 Boxster in Zenith blue with 19K on the clock. It is in a pretty much as-new condition, purchased from a dealer on the 17th July, so have only had it a week. The only problem I'm having is when the alarm is set, the car's horn beeps once and the dashboard LED flashes twice every couple of seconds. According to the manual that means something is open, and I understand this is usually the centre console lid.

I have made sure the lid is closed and locked. I have checked the microswitches on the boot and bonnet lids turn off the lights and both are properly shut. I have opened and re-closed the roof. I did fit a new stereo but I have made sure I put insulation tape over the point on the left where the alarm sensor contact is.

After having tried all these things, it still beeps. []

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what to try? Is there a way to find out which sensor is failing? Or am I going to have to go to Porsche to get them to fault-find?

Finally, do you think this is something I could go back to the dealer with, to get him to fix it? Or is it "part of wear and tear"?

Many thanks for any help.

Does it have an aftermarket radio? If so, someone has earthed the radio cage alarm contact.

Edit: Sorry!

Hi Richard. I did say that I had "put insulation tape over the point on the left where the alarm sensor is" so I think I've got that one covered? Unless the cage itself needs the tape, hmmm, might have another look. I put the tape on the side of the new stereo.

Fixed the problem - the stereo alarm switch was pressing against the cage, not the stereo itself. After the liberal application of insulation tape to the cage, all is now well.

Cheers guys!
