991.2 GTS WINTER TYRES

Hello all, I’ll be driving my GTS to Vienna where I’m now based. The law states I need to fit winter tyres over the winter months but I can’t find any details in the accessories online site. What does everyone do? Do you replace all the wheels and tyres or simply swap out the tyres? Does the OPC store the summer set over the winter?

Why not contact your OPC and see what they suggest.

I bought my set of winter wheels and tyres from Simon at 9 Apart

There are plenty of tyres suppliers that will sell you a set of winter tyres such as Michelin or My Tyres

Buy wheels and tyres. It's a complete faff having to fit winter tyres to existing rims , re-balance and do the same exercise again a few months later on. There's more risk of incurring damage to them too. You also then have spares should the unfortunate occur. [;)]

You can usually find some good deals after the summer, both new and used from the usual online channels.

PCs will often offer to store spare wheels for you but may charge for doing so.

Regards,

Clive

Thank you everyone. My insurance allows me to drive abroad for less than six months each year and Austria has a requirement to fit winter tyres from Nov to April so unless I register the car in Austria, I’ll be better off driving it from the UK and returning before end of October. The risk is being stopped on summer tyres when I’m returning the car to the UK if I leave during the winter months.
