991.2 has grown on me.

The Easter weekend, I borrowed a cab 991.2S from Porsche Centre Cardiff and covered about 500 miles of various Welsh roads from Builth Wells, Barmouth, Harlech Betws y Coed, Llangollen and Llandrindod Wells.
From the first drive when I borrow'd the car at the launch of the 991.2, I was not keen on the car. On this drive, the car has grown on me and found it so easily to drive and very smooth to compare with my 991 GTS. The car pulls away so effortless.

However, I did find the fuel consumption higher than I thought, with 23 miles averaged on the first day with 27 MPG on the second. I did not push the car. I believed this model should have given me a higher mpg than the one recorded, it could be due to have only completed 2000 miles the engine would have still been tight.

I tested the on board goodies, and did not like the apple maps on car play, it would have been OK in towns but in the country it looses signal. The car was also fitted with adaptive cruise control which I liked.

I must admit, I did like the car this time round, but it is not time to change my GTS yet.

I've got a Gen 2 on order with expected delivery in May and need to firm up on the spec in the next week or so. I have ordered a PDK which have now in my Gen1 and in my last 997 also. However I drove both a PDK and a Manual at the Experience Centre last week and really liked the Manual a lot, to the extent that I'm thinking about going for that in my new car. Was your borrowed machine Manual or PDK? Looking for some thoughts from everyone on this.

Thanks

Thanks for your info, I looked at swapping my Turbo S but frankly the improvements are not that relevant to me at the price. After all there will be a new 911 in a year or so,

PS Looks like you didn't have the rear parking camera!! I can almost park mine between the white lines as I specified the camera!! Joke

Cheers

It was a PDK Ellis, which I have had on my previous 3 * 991. I would not revert to manual again. yes it did have a reversing camera, [:)]

I reckon I'll stick with the PDK in the end to be honest, but the Manual was really nice and a vast improvement on what they had on the 997s and previous models. Short shift, very positive and a nice easy clutch.

I've ordered the rear camera btw. My wife has it on her Toyota and it's transformed her parking skills (and mine [:)])

I'd go manual, like my last two, if only for the lovely engine burble between gear changes which you don't get with the pdk. Also depends where you are using it most often - if it's city driving or sitting on motorways, go for the auto box, which is what I have for my daily driver. But at the weekend, on flowing A and B roads and with a few hills, the manual is joyful. Personal choice in the end.
