Hi All, I’m just over 12 months into my Porsche ownership dream & must admit loving every minute of it.
I have a issue with the stitching on the convertible roof of my vehicle and was hoping someone with a greater knowledge than myself might be able to shed some light on what might be causing it or any ideas on how I might go about rectifying the issue. I have had a search through the forum but as yet not come across the same problem.
I have a 2013 991 911 Carrera 4s Convertible the issue was evident when I purchased the car but did not ring any alarm bells as to being a problem but I’m now getting a little worried the issue is progressively getting worse.
I have approx a 3-4 inch section of the roof stitching attaching the main roof with the side section situated above the rear 1/4 windows where the stitching is looking to be coming apart. The problem is evident on both sides of the vehicle in exactly the same place, it first looked like the stitching was being rubbed on something and the fibres were fluffing but looking more closely I can see that the stitching is gradually coming apart.
When I lower the roof the damaged section sits on top of the rear window section and then the front section sits on top, I can’t make out any rubbing of the sections or anything that is fouling this part of the roof when folded away or when the folding mechanism is operating.
All other areas of the roof the stitching is 100% perfect it is just this one area that is affected but exactly the same problem on both sides of the car.
My plea to all you Porsche gods & goddesses is has anyone come across this before and have any advice how I might stop it getting any worse and also be willing to share any pearls of wisdom on how best to repair the current damage. Forgive my naivety on the subject but is it possible to have the section sown back together again?
I have hopefully attached a number of photos of the effected area. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and of course my thanks in advance. Keep safe all...Andy
p.s i am blaming lockdown for the recent decal additions decision, please don’t hate me.
