Hi all, just wondering if any one else has noticed that that the glass roofs on the 991 turbo, is not all glass !
While washing mine yesterday I found out that the front and rear section are a kind of Perspex, and can easily become scratched, as I found out !
So be gentle when cleaning.

Same as my GTS 991 tho i was told its the same as the rest of the car material, Doesnt bother me either way and with a normal 2 bucket was method you should have no problems really (for awhile anyhow)

A good detailer can polish out washing scratches on Perspex. Then a coating will help prevent future damage.

I always two bucket wash, but the car wash in the garage and i tried to clean a water mark/general mark, off the perspex with a micro fiber cloth and some auto glym fast glass
and it caused some small scratching, which was quite concerning how easy it it happened.

Are you sure it wasnt the car wash that did this ? Id never use them unless it was a car i had no time for and was a scrapper (which i wouldnt be driving in the first place) ? A DA would take them out

Yes, it's quite soft and easily damaged, as you say. Often OPC's can cause damage with their washing procedures, which is why my most recent new car went straight to the detailer without being touched by the dealer.

Dont blame you pwebb, I never let them wash my 991 cab and wont with the GTS, I rem the look they gave me when i asked what do you wash it with, a sponge and shampoo what do you think was the look i got and the answer more or less, You wont be touching any of my cars was the reply. I dont even dry them off, i use the master blaster to blow them dry as its bad washing methods that put the spider webbing into them in the first place, the less touching of the paintwork the better, tho that black piece of whatever it is on the roof will mark even with the best washing drying methods, then it will be time for the DA to come out

I also you a master blaster and wont let any of the servicing departments wash my cars. Also use a water deioniser which insures no water spots and also prolongs the wax life. Bit anal but I am a quack!

Yea also use the water filter as well, as u say stops them annoying water marks and the less hands on the better, ive never let any service department was a car. And wen you ask them how do you wash them they look at you like youve 2 heads with a sponge (enough said, you not touching my motor) for the price you pay for the motors they shud really have ppl who can wash a motor proper even if only quickly

Gents,
Glad I'm not alone, i never let main dealer wash My cars, and always insist on them NOT washing when at MD, I always wash them Myself rinse, foam lance, rinse, foam lance, then two bucket wash, two mits, (one for top of car one for bottom)
then dry with micro towel, I did have a water filter, but didn't like the idea of the water running through a gritty medium, in the filter.
The neighbours all think I'm mad as i seem to be the only person who washes their own car, on Our road !

Who was the filter made by ? they are are protected and sealed so only water gets througt the out end of the filter, have you never thought about a master blaster ? i wouldnt dry a car again as this is the seconded biggest way that WE put the swirls into the paintwork no matter what quailty the mircofibre is, plus you get all then annoying wee bits around the lights/mirror etc completely dried out so that when u do move off theres no drips that run down, might take you a bit longer tho its worth the end result

I have used up until now resin filters from Ionic Systems. Have recently bought a Raceglaze refillable filter with 25 lire bags of resin from Ionic systems - . Yet to try the system as I have 2 Ionic filters still in stock. I think the refillable filtes will be much more economical. Bonus of using the filters is that the water can be used for topping up batteries.
I share my master blaster (8 HP ) with our big dogs (German of course -Leonburgers ) who get very dirty in the wet weather and need to be hosed down and dried before coming into the house.

I also use my master blaster for our giant malamute, loves the rain so using it stops him getting the house wet when he comes in, think it's defo been my best car washing purchase and thinking upgrading to the more powerful one now as have had this one for 4yrs and still going strong
