991 oil level gauge

On collection of my 991.2 from OPC
service the oil level recorded (engine warm/ ignition off/ wait 2 minutes)
to 3/4 or so of the bar. When I bought the car it recorded max and maintained
that level until first service
OPC maintains the correct volume of oil
was used so I am left with the conclusion the gauge is not re setting
accurately
Not sure if I need to take it up with OPC
or just move on?

I have a similar issue on my 991.2. Up until the first service, the bar on the oil gauge never moved from maximum but afterwards the bar began to fall quite quickly until I got a warning message while out and about which was alarming and unexpected. Fortunately I had a full bottle of oil with me. The car took the whole bottle!! Since then I check the gauge regularly. The handbook says that useage is 0.8 litres per 1,000 km so the bar reducing would be as expected but I’m confused as to why the bar didn’t move before the first service. I’ve had a look under the car and on my driveway and don’t see evidence of an oil leak. it appears that the gauge should be read when the car is warmed up, stopped and level for at least a minute. Having said that, the gauge will display while on the move which may give a misleading reading as the car is obviously not stationary or level???

The issue seems not to prompt an answer from OPC, however I can't see why the oil level would drop from max. on a 50 mile drive home unless a leak existed. Therefore I am assuming the bar reading is not correct. I remember the dipstick with some fondness!!

I now understand OPC don’t fill the oil level to the max point to allow for volume increases when the engine is hot. A logical point but doesn’t explain why the car was filled to max when delivered new.
