992 C4 Tracker problems

I bought a 992 C4 from Porsche Leicester in August and was very pleased with the car and also the service from the term at the dealers. However, since then the dealer has been unable to resolve an issue with the car's tracker and the Porsche Connect system. The dealer has now had the car for over a month and has been unable to get the tracker working. Apparently, this is not so much an issue with the car (other 992s and some Taicans have been affected too) as with the Porsche servers in Germany. The dealer says they are in regular dialogue with Germany at the highest level, but, as yet, no solution has been found.

Apart from being without my car, my insurance company will not cover it for theft without the tracker working. With no effective insurance, I am somewhat stymied.

I don't expect any member has a solution to his problem, but I would be interested to hear if others have experienced similar problems.

Have not experienced tracker problem as you have.

The Porsche tracker I understand is Vodafone but administrated by Porsche.
It could be advisable for you to ask if your car location appears on their system +441282473799

I decided to try and avoid tracker required insurance after issues with my
previous 991 and vodaphone. In the end it costs no more on my 992 without £200+ tracker subscription and paying a higher premium.
Having been without my car for a week
whilst a flat battery issue was investigated I do hope you get back to enjoying what is a really good version of the 911 soon

This seems to be a common theme with trackers, which in some aspects is linked to battery issues as well, especially on the bike forum I'm on. For some people it's totally ruined the ownership experience and they've gotten rid of the bike, others like me have decided to avoid having the tracker. I'm one of those people that don't believe in trackers, because if the vehicle got stolen then I wouldn't want it back anyway. I think it's more helpful to insurers because in most cases with premium vehicles, it's cheaper for them to fix it up than replace completely.

I asked for tracker activation when I took delivery of my 992 in October, I was strongly advised to reconsider. Without criticising the product, they did tell of experiences other customers had come across. All of which made me decide that the extra insurance was a better option and the Porsche app.

Secondly, I never know where my key is, let alone a rather cumbersome fob. I do hope that your matters are resolved.

Thank you all for your replies. The problem seems to be more deep-rooted than just the tracker. Porsche have been unable to get the car to register with the Porsche Connect system and the tracker is somehow related to that. That is unless the Porsche Connect system is simply a glorified tracker, re-badged by Porsche. As you can see, I am a bit ignorant about how all this is supposed to work.

Anyway, I need to investigate insurance options which don't require a tracker.

I would not accept that such an expensive car (or any car!) should be with the dealers for that length of time as you have only just bought it.

I suggest you give them a warning that you are rejecting the car as not fit for the purpose it was designed for under the Consumer Rights Act. It worked for me.

Hi I had a similar issue with my 992 tracker -hull Porsche had the car two weeks and reported the same back to me re. Germany looking into it.
I know they changed the tracker module and fobs that didn’t resolve the issue and eventually I believe it was a software server glitch that got it working again. Now I’m experiencing rattling door cards !(not tracker connected)
