992 GTS Insurance

My 911 GTS is 3 years old at the end of the month. I intend to keep my vehicle for at least another year and will be taking out the Porsche Parts Warranty for the next year.

I having been insuring through a broker for the last 2 years at a cost in excess of £2k. I have had one claim for a windscreen replacement and the insurance company paid out immediately for a new windscreen to be fitted at my local OPS.

I have had a quote from Admiral for insurance over the next 12 months at a cost of £850, hence a saving of over £1k. The only thing of contention regarding the Admiral Policy is windscreen were they advise use of their preferred company for replacement.

Am I missing something as the Admiral Policy appears to be excellent value and meets my needs.

Any advice would be appreciated.

no you aren't missing anything. But check the Admiral coverage for participating in organised events...(Eg club runs)

You have the right to insist on an OEM part, albeit you may have to pay a larger excess

As an aside, many years ago, i had an accident on my motorbike. The third parties insurer wanted to use non OEM parts and used parts...when i queried my insurer if those counted as modifications, i was told yes... so i insisted the 3rd party fitted new OEM parts

Many thanks appreciated.

I have a 992 GTS and am insured with Admiral. I also have a 718 GT4 which is insured with Classic Line. Most of our cars have been insured with Admiral under a multi-car policy for the last 20 years, but I have insured the GT4 with Classic Line for the track day cover. I also had a windscreen claim with Admiral a few years ago and they wanted to fit an unbranded autoglass product. I explained the car has been maintained with OE parts from new (the car was 8 years old at this point) and had been serviced inline with OE specs. I insisted on an OE windscreen and in the end they agreed with no increase in excess but it did take some insistance on my part. However, things may have changed a little since I made my claim.

Many thanks for your helpful comments, appreciated.

Also have a 992.1 4GTS insured with Admiral on a MC policy but have not managed to get to an organised event yet so have't tested that bit of the policy wording. It would be good if we could get a response from Admiral on the specifics of that clause.

One option you have is to PPF the windscreen - my car has full PPF including windscreen and sun roof. It did take some effort to get it applied properly but it at least does give some added protection to stop chips on the windscreen.

I have been in contact with Admiral and have confirmation, via web chat (full written confirm to follow) that the reference in policy limits to "organised motoring event" applies only to races / timed events.

My example was - a motoring holiday could be construed as an "organised motoring event" which is plainly nonsense

I have 997 GTS insured with Admiral since new on a MC policy (£210 fully comp) and did have to replace the windscreen. After 3 years old they won’t supply OEM Porsche marked screen so I had to order one through Porsche and Admiral refunded the difference, which was about 10% of the OEM screen …
