992 Upgrade Sanity check and guidance :)

Ok - here goes my first new thread!

So today I am running a 992 C2 Cab, Nov 2019 car with <4k miles on it. I now have the urge to get more POWER! (Yes, entirely irrational I know :) As also says the good lady Wife!)

My end game is either a 992 Turbo Coupe, or 992 GTS Coupe - the former has a good wait (2022 delivery), the latter as yet unannounced availability. Would not need many options, so build code likely to come in around £140k-145k on the Turbo Coupe.

This leaves me with my gap filling options :) For the same outlay, about £110k-£115k or so, I have a choice of:
* 992 C2S or C4S (stock car or new but pre-registered)
* 991.2 GTS Coupe, or
* 991.2 Turbo or Turbo S Coupe

Never owned a 991.2 at all, in the 911 range only a 997.1 C2, 997.2 C4S and now 992 C2 Cab. Inside is 100% dated, but not unpleasant in the 991.2.
Q. What do clever folks like y'all think?
Q. Any thoughts (or facts?) on residuals on the above, assuming a 992 Turbo Coupe trade up in 12-18 months?

My 992 C2 Cab residuals on a pure cash sale has come in around 80%. Mainly dropped the new car VAT, plus as usual, little / no resale value on the upgrades.
Q. I assume the same would happen on the 992 C2S / C4S, perhaps a little more if a GTS is released soon?

Interestingly I have found that some OPCs have new 992 cars in stock, despite the waitlist for a customisable build slot.
Q. Other than ringing up / emailing every UK OPC, how do we potential buyers find out what we could buy new in stock?

It doesn't seem to make lot of sense buying another 992 when you already have one. You would suffer 2 new car depreciations when your current car will probably hold up quite well in its 2/3rd years whilst you wait. Furthermore, I doubt you will happy with the older 991 model now you have sampled a 992.

My take would be to slap deposit down on a new GTS or Turbo with your favourite PC for a foot in the door, then ring around and let it be known you're in the market for a demo or cancelled order if one becomes available. Dealers are often happy to let one of these go to a new customer since it preserves their regular reservation list. Porsche Retail owned PC's usually have good allocations and get first dibs on new models. Mayfair and Hatfield are 2 I'm aware of and I have contacts at Mayfair, so please PM me If you need more info.

Finally, and I mean no disrespect, but the 992 C2 is a very capable machine and in the right hands, there isn't much that can stay with it. So whilst you're waiting, it may be useful to get some driving instruction in order to obtain the best from your current steed. Very few drivers are able to exploit the full potential without some tuition and you may well surprise yourself how very able your car is. Phil Graham organises sessions for Register members at Millbrook with an instructor and there may well be one coming up shortly.

Somebody once told me something I've not forgotten, "Until you're driving flat out everywhere and you find you're not going fast enough, never look for more engine power". [:D]

Thanks for a great response! I did say my desire was an irrational one and you say the same :)
So far I have found it impossible to put a real deposit on a 992 GTS. Deposit on a Turbo Coupe is generally no problem as it is an official car spec.
Will send you a PM on options for this - thank you for the offer on intros. Getting on a real list for a 992 GTS has to be a great option, which I had ignored based on OPC's feedback.
Would like to be more involved in club driver training / practice days too - so looking forward to lockdown unlocking for that.
I also want to get back in a Coupe, vs current Cabriolet, so actually I am combining two things here :p I can't bring myself to only swap a C2Cab for C2Coupe. Also some badge ego applies.
