993 2S Handling?

OK guys .... help please!

I have just sold my '95 C2 and lust after a 993 C2S but have heard that they have been criticised for poor handling!

Does anyone have any experience, or feedback or a point of view even?

Also while the 18" wheels look the biz on the C2S the general opinion seems to be that 17" are the better all round wheel. Discuss!

Cheers

Robert

Thanks Maurice.

Ooh .... there are a few around at the moment although they seem to sell fairly quickly.

Prices seem to have moved / be moving downwards now too having been pretty robust over the last few years. Could the 993S residuals be about to drop quickly now? The straight 993 certainly seems to be markedly cheaper than it was a year ago!

My "S" is excellent in every department, including handling. I chose it based on its handling as well as looks!

I have the 18" hollow spoke wheels and keep the tracking etc set up properly.

You may have only heard negative comments from one area only, which of course can spread to seem as if it's a widespread opinion, which it's not. I guess the negative comment emanated from that Porsche magazine with more pictures than content. (They tend also to make other factual errors in their "data" section of the magazine, so it could be that they don't know what they are talking about and have lauched a magazine based upon a lucrative target market rather than as enthusiasts.)

Scoured my own archive of 911&Porche World binders - sad I know - and managed to find one article where Peter Morgan took a 2S on a pilgrimage to Spa,Reims and the 'Ring entitled Fast and Furious July 97.
In covering over 1000miles he found "every single one of them a perfect example of this amazing cars poise, competence, versatility and style".
Interestingly Ian Kuah wrote many articles on 993's some modified and professed the RS to be his favourite although "if you want to use a car every day the Carrera 4 is the best all-rounder. Its handling is still the safest for drivers at all levels and it is ultimately the quickest and most relaxed of the normally aspirated cars from point to point because of this, especially in the wet."
Whatever your preference the 993 in all guises is simply brilliant.

My 993 carrera handled brilliantly (IMHO) stock, but I have just changed to PSS9's and RS anti roll bars with RS ride height and set up and all I can say is WOW, it is truly awesome!

Maurice, being a newbie to Pss9's and RS bars what settings do you use for road and track?

Pss9's are currently all set on 1 and bars on the first hole front and back

TIA

Hi Maurice,

thanks for the advice, the installer suggested these settings then he is running a 993 RS CS!!

The anti roll bars are actually set the other way round, full soft, but the ride is a little harsh with the PSS9's (now where is my torch to help me find the fillings in the footwell!!!)

I will give the settings you suggest a go (especially before the wife tries the car after the install (which only happened a few days ago).

PS I am running SO2's as well

Many thanks

John
