993 4S Flat Battery

Have a 1997 993 4S which seems to flatten the battery within hours, sometines 2-3 days at best. Have new battery fitted by Strasse but no better.

One day came to car next morning and radio singing to itself. Next day took to garage bought it from and after approx 47 mins radio turned itself on. Auto electrician can't seem to find anything and I have spoken to Hamilton and Palmer and they say it an't be there system. Car fitted with Becker Indianapolis radio and CD changer.

Any ideas as I am getting close to imitating John Cleese with his Morris but am afraid will grab a sledge hammer rather than a bush to beat the bitch !!

Do some of these models have GPS and Bluetooth ?

Could a paired bluetooth device be turning it on ?? Just a thought.

Very unusual fault though.

Thanks for reply.

Certainly the radio has GPS satellite nav built in but dont think it has Blue tooth. Will check. Must get in touch with Becker to see if they have any clues.

James, sorry to hear about your troubles with your 993 4S. But how about this for a coincidence; we've got an old Ford Fiesta Diseaseal with what seems to be the same fault as the radio comes on randomly with the ignition off and no key inserted. All I can think is that Porsche must have been using the Ford spares bin for 993 4S parts [;)]

By all means, give Maurice a good thrashing tho' I would recommend a reasonably sized birch tree. (I'm sure Maurice would rather have the tree than the sledge hammer at his stage of life) [] Oh, and etiquette would suggest that we don't call Maurice a bitch, well, not until he goes on Pimp My Ride (or whatever it's called).

I hope you wear safety glasses when working on the battery.

Regards

Bob

G&T, I wish Maurice; I'm second in line for a call out tonight. Anyway, I thought my message was down to my usual standard . Am I slipping up(wards)?

Nearly mentioned to James that he should put his measuring device - DVM/meter with pointy needle/divining rod - in series with whatever he is measuring. However, as usual you beat me to it with your 'leave it alone if you don't know what you are doing' message []

Regards

Bored Bob

PS The safety glasses note isn't a joke. We couldn't get an aircraft started due to a flat battery and a plonker from the flight line comes along and slaps a portable charger onto the battery. Big bang. Lots of battery case outside aircraft. Lots of battery acid in aircraft.

I know the feeling. I bought a Cetrex conditioner from Peter Morgan (see 911 & Porsche World) same as Porsche item but cheaper. Very simple and convenient plug or clip connection. No problems since.
