Took her for a blast today and when exiting the maotorway there was a loud groaning as we turned off the slip road. It happened every time I turned the wheel on the few hunded yards back to the gaff. In the garage got my son to turn wheel while I listened to noise which seemed to omit from engine bay. Have looked under car and there is a puddle of oil/ hydraulic fluid under offside front suspension. Also reservoir in offside bonnet seems to have leaked around the cap ( this may be brake reservoir as I am not yet familaiar with layout) .

Hopefully just a seal has gone and need s fluid topping up ???? Any thoughts

I know your 4S is different from my C2 but it sounds as if you may need to get steering rack replaced/reconditioned. Be careful about running car without fluid as I know I was warned about damaging Steering pump if it runs dry.

JM is exactly right ...............u have a choice of faults , however run the pump dry and it costs a few quid ! If theres the proverbial puddle on the floor under rack seal has gone and/or gaiter split resulting in dumping fluid on floor .........then pump running without enough fluid , should be ok if u have nt been like it for ages ..........slightly confused by additional prob of fluid at rear ? Reservoir is small black plastic tank in rhs rear wing ,looking into engine compartment , has a narled cap , this may be well down from rack leak so dont see why u got fluid there unless pressure pipe has started weeping and caused rack to fail , most unlikely just pump would groan and sieze ...............if it all goes pop only result is expense and heavy steering
New rack abt £900, inc geometry or less with a good indy .............

If it is the Rack - I removed mine and sent it to Western Power Steering who reconditioned it for £199 and it has been fine since. Put in Google and look at their web site- good info on there.

A bit of a job mind !!
