Hi Guys, looking at an early 993 (1994) the other day with a view to purchasing, the car has not got air con, couple of questions for you experts on the model please.

Was air con an option on early cars ?
What year did it become standard ?
Have all varioram cars got air con ?

And lastly how much if anything would you pay premium for a car with working air conditioning fitted ?

Im tempted by this car I looked at but it has not got air, bar a bit of paintwork car seems ok, I use the car abroad a bit and normal (whatever that is now) summers not sure I could do without air conditioning !

Any thoughts ?

I don't know when it was standard, but be careful to ensure the aircon works properly as it cost about £2.5k to sort my a/c out following purchase. All parts had to be renewed apart from compressor - under warranty I hasten to add !! but a lot of hassle.

Aircon was not standard on 93/4 cars ..............only new Porka i ever had , chose to go without, got mullered on resale from all trade buyers 2 years later !

Btw Jaz Wembley sorted aircon for me recently, regassing etc very cheaply and efficiently on a '95, 993 ...............it is nt often too expensive , though compressor would be huge, very few other bits are , condensor etc not more than £500 usually a great deal less and down to leaks ..............

Standard on 96 cars so all Varioram have it. Don't know if it was standard in 95 or still an option then.

Ian.

When I was looking a few years back there appeared to be a £1K to £1.5K differential between those that had AC and those that didn't.

Well worth having IMO.

The August 95 (MY1996?) price list shows AirCon as a £2375 option on C2, C4 and RS, but standard on Targa, C4S and TT.

I would pay the extra to get a car with the AC, mine was not working during the winter and it was a pain demisting. Once fixed it works really well. If you find a car with it on, it should work quite well - don't assume that it only needs regassing. I had to replace the condensor and all the pipework that runs along the cill as they are prone to chafing. On a hot day, you would not want to be with out it.....
