993 Body Modifications - advice please

Hi,
I have a 1995 Iris Blue C2 993 and after initially considering an 'upgrade' to a 996, I will now be holding onto mine considering the horror stories I've heard through other threads on the early 996's!

My question is this; Can any of you recommend a garage which can supply, paint and install the following:
- Side Sills like in the photo below
- Front fog lights/with air ducts
- RS front spoiler
- Rear roof spoiler with integrated brake light

and finally how would a 993 Turbo 4 spoiler look on a normal 993?, a bit OTT?

Ps i live in London

Thanks

i know of a good spray/body shop near heathrow

if you suppy parts he would spray and fit

Can also recomend Alan and Karl at 'Specialised Paintwork' in Reading. 01189 306206. Mention my name.

They are right behind the OPC and do a lot of Porkers. Also seem to have a lot of bent Elises there!!

My advice FWIW would be to leave your car as it is. The 993 is arguably the best looking "911" anyway & tarting it up to look like something it's not can surely only harm the value.

I, personally, think you may have been duped by these 996 'scare' stories. The 996 is a terrific car, and a good example is far more advanced than a 993.

However, the 993 is also a terrific car, for different reasons. It provided the peak of the development of the traditional, air-cooled 911's, with much of the character of the earlier cars, but in a more modern package. And, as such, the best examples will be future classics.

I agree with Andy, please don't mess it up with non-original custom mods, keep it as original and perfect as possible.

Andy/Oliver -you're no fun!!

Let the poor chap spend all that money and then tell him. [:D]

Thanks Guys for the feedback,

I agree with Oliver and Andy actually, so I probably won't be putting a rear spoiler at the back. I'm still keen on changing to the more modern turbo lens kit and the third brake light as they are original and very subtle too. I'll consider the small front air ducts too. No spoilers!

This whole thing started actually when noticing that my window frames had corrosion which is quite common on 993's apparently. So, while it's in the bodyshop, I thought I'd put these bits on too.

Porsche OPC in Hatfield had turned down my request to have them fixed on the 10 year warranty :-(

Does your car have FPSH?

Some corrosion was carried out on the C-post of my 964 when it was nine years old -no argument at all, but upto that time it had FPSH and all of the bodywork inspections had been done.

exactly.. !

anyway I've seen a car with that look and it actually looks great ! [:D]

Exactly Maurice. I had my scuttle panel sorted under warranty but they would not consider my window frames. Reason above.

Yes me too! Just had some rust spots on scuttle (if that is what you call the bit under the front windscreen) sorted under warranty but they would not cover the black frame on the drivers window. I think the new frame was going to cost somewhere approaching £500 but the bodyshop kindly blew it over to keep it looking smart for the time being.

I have a similar scuttle rust spot issue, whats the official line on the warranty ?, my car has had non opc specialist service - ie Paragon and JZ Machtech. Would an OPC still consider the scuttle work under warranty, the car is a '96.

They could say no as when I had mine done OPC checked my stamps. I use JZ now but at the time it had full OPC history. The bodywork warranty is 10 years so if I were you I would try anyway - nothing to loose.

I am surprised so many 993's seem to suffer from rust particularly as most of the literature on them suggests that it shouldn't be a problem. Most of the ones I have looked at seem to have a little and particularly under the windscreen, so they must be susceptible in this location. I don't really understand why cars such as the old mondeo I bought to run around in are less prone to rust than the 993 which is a much more expensive car. My 993 did have a full OPC service history and this was checked before the local OPC agreed to deal with the scuttle under warranty. I think I would ask your OPC if they will do it under warranty - good luck.

Bit of a hijack re rust, from the original thread, but, I have fitted the original Porsche Aerokit to my 993 and have had nothing but compliments about the way it looks.

It has also helped with the handling and feels more planted.

Thanks for the feedback again,

I have now ordered the parts from Jonas at JZ Machtech which are all Porsche original.
I'll be putting on the Turbo 'S' front fog lamps with integrated air ducts, Rear 3rd Brake roof spoiler and Turbo lens kit.
Very subtle but should look alot nicer overall!

One extra thing I'll be doing is getting the grey plastic grill on the rectractable spoiler colour coded to the car. This can be done and should look much better afterwards.

I will post a few photos when done in 2 weeks.

(I've already spent £1,000's on Rook suspension and original Sport Design GT3 wheels!).

You can keep the bodywork warranty in place regardless of where the car is serviced.
You just take your 993 to your OPC anually and get them to do a bodywork inspection - its free and takes about 20 minutes. They'll then stamp your book and you're done.

I just took mine out of OPC care (over a grand for a 24k service was just too much - esp as JZ did it for 485!!) and the OPC kindly did the inspection and retro-stamped the book for all the previous stamps from the day it was new. I still have a great relationship with them and still take the car in for minor stuff & MOTs (as its alot closer than JZ) - they're great and they know 993s.

And if you're wondering - OPC Colchester, ask for Andrew Welsh.
