Hi,

Need some views here please. Over winter I want to have the callipers on my 993 C4 refurbed. I have found a company 'Porsche Calipers' who can do this for me.

I plan to go from the standard silver colour to red. Any thoughts?

Car is polar silver with standard 17" cup alloys.

Not cheap so do not want to get it wrong!!

Thanks

Hi,

Stripped, powder coated and then rebuilt with new seals, dust caps, and pad plates. Will be as good as new!

Hi Mark,

Thanks for this. Now got me thinking I should stick with the silver [&:]

All these decisions!

Keep them silver especially as it's a C4 - it's factory original, as Mark says.
Your choice, of course, but don't what all this fuss is about having different coloured calipers anyway.
Must have my black (factory C2) ones redone someday.

Are the brakes working properly, or do you have concerns over their functionality. 993 brakes are, as on most Porsches, exceptional, maybe a bit of plate lift on cars which are lightly used, if they aint broke don't fix em, would be my advice.Use them vigorously and be sure to change your fluid as per.[:D]

Hi

It may well be you don't need a refurb (unless they've neglected somewhere down the line). I'm still on the original factory-painted C4 silver, car used every week, change the brake fluid every couple of years or so, and had no trouble with paint, plates, pads or seals -they're good to go (or stop [:D] ).

I have to disagree a refurbishment should be normal long-term maintenance. These callipers are well known for "plate lift" due to the steel inner calliper plates causing the underlying aluminium calliper body to corrode and lift them off. Also the rubber calliper seals harden and crack over the years.

I had my indy refurbish mine earlier this year, along with fitting steel braided hoses and DOT4 fluid; the improvement was very noticeable indeed and I know they will be good for another +10yrs.
