993 C2 coupe manual : clutch pedal issue

Apologies if the answer to this question already exists somewhere on the forum.
Went to drive my C2 yesterday to find the clutch pedal lying almost flat on the floor, very limited and low resistance movement, and couldn't engage any gear. This morning, I manually pulled the pedal back to its vertical position, pumped the clutch a couple of times - and it now seems to be working ok!
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what might be causing this issue?

If I remember correctly (way back when!) I had the same symptoms when my clutch slave cylinder was failing. Typical 'hanging clutch' stuff for a 993 so might be the first place to look.

Cheers/John

The first thing to try is bleeding the clutch slave cylinder. This uses brake fluid and should really be serviced/bled when the the brake fluid is changed. On some cars this may not have been done for years!
When you bleed the slave cylinder, look at the fluid that comes out, if it is dirty, unclear it may have perished rubber in it and obviously air/water.
If you bleed it replacing with clean fluid, you may solve the problem.
If the issue persists, the slave may be too worn or rubbers softened/perished, then you should replace it as a unit. (Rebuild is hardly cost effective.)

Always up for option 5!

Ours has always done this. It was quite a worry the first time it happened as I was in the middle of nowhere and had no pedal travel at all!! We were told it is to do with a linkage on the clutch itself requiring engine out of course!

We just live with it - just tuck your toe underneath the pedal to lift it so it pops back in place when necessary.

Follow JB 3.2 list if you have the time and ability.

Its the Clutch slave master cylinder should be replaced if it happens a few times. Lack of use usually the cause.

Laura please replace it's not an expensive repair.
