993 C2 question

If I were looking at a 993 Carrera 2 with 91,000+ miles on the clock, is there anything specific I should be looking for in the history apart from the obvious full service history and 'recent clutch change', etc.

Many thanks,
Rich Claridge

Also, before committing to inspection costs, drive it. That will give a lot of clues to whether it is worthwhile or not.

Even better, test drive a really good example, then you will have a benchmark!

Thanks, the buyers guide is very useful. Also, I have the 911&PW buyers guide somewhere and will read it again when I get a spare ten minutes.

If buying from a very reputable, well-known independent dealer who offer a full service, 12,000 mile / 12 month parts and labour warranty before sale would it still be worthwhile getting an independent PPI done? Apart from peace of mind, etc.

... a full service ...
Depends what that means. It could just be an oil change.

12,000 mile / 12 month parts and labour warranty before sale would it still be worthwhile getting an independent PPI done? Apart from peace of mind, etc.
Check policy carefully.

That could go a long way to determining your comfort factor of going ahead without a PPI. Also a warrenty will not protect you if you find out the car has crash damage etc later where as a good PPI will.

Finally do you personally know people who have bought from the dealer and are happy.

Ian.

Definitely have a PPI irrespective of where you are buying. Human nature dictates that someone paid to do a PPI is going to look harder than someone selling the car.

PPIs are not expensive- £250 ish, depending on scope. Even if the car is essentially sound, I'm sure they will find something that means it pays for itself... or worst case, save you from a v expensive mistake.

I bought a Jag E Type from a dealer, assuming the best, only to find 1 yr on the car was a cosmetically covered-up rust bucket. Never got my money back, but I was wet behind the ears and it taught me a big lesson.

I would also mention the time I looked at a 993 RS Touring (?- which rang an alarm bell) at a very reputable Ferrari dealer... a quick chassis check revealed it was actually a basic C2 with an aftermarket RS bodykit...

Get a PPI!

And don't forget to do an HPI check. It saved me from buying a write off last year, worth every penny x 100.

Cheers

Hi,
I bought a 993 C2 Tip. six months ago. For peace of mind I elected to have it viewed by an expert. Peter Morgan author of the Buyer's Guides and who writes for 911&PW carried out a very thorough pre purchase check at short notice. He was going on holiday the following day. His very detailed report arrived as promised the next day. He completed HPI checks and whether the car had been the subject of major parts order ( panels etc). As it happened he said the car was nice at the same time indicating issues for consideration (all superficial). Subsequent comments from servicing specialist confirmed his view. In all great peace of mind making for very enjoyable motoring. I recommend you do the same.
Richard
