993 c2 Suspension / Ride Height

I've bought a 993 c2 RS Rep fitted with H & R Adjustable suspension. Previous owner has car set up way to low so front tyres catching wheel arches when turning. The car is fitted with 18 inch Tramont Cup2 wheels i.e. factory approved RS Type 3 piece split rims. I'm in Gloucestershire and looking for recommendations on ride height to have adjusted and any recommendations on who can do this? Building a new house which has quite a steep drive so looking at the Sport spec of 144 front and 127 rear (recon it may have been set around 124 front and 107 rear being the RS spec).

It is this one Maurice. OP did you buy it from the recent CCA auction?

Hi Maurice,
Thanks for the reply. As you may gather I'm not that technical so I will list from the receipts the suspensions parts which I have no idea how RS they are. These appear to have been purchased over a period of 4 months so not sure if some of it was experimentation:
H&R Adjustable suspention kit
Rennline Lower strut brace
Rennline 993 - Rear Tow Control Arm with Eccentric Locks
Drop Link 993 1994 - 97 RS Rear L or R Lemformer - April 18 (put date as further deop links purchase July 18 below)
964 Front Shock Mount -Concaved 993
Front Shock Topmount 993
Rear Shock Mount Mount L & R 993 Dansk
Wishbone Ball Joint Front 993 1994 - 97 L or R Lemforder
RennLone Solid Link Rear Subframe Kit and Tilt Kit Porsche 993
Elephant Racing - Front Tie Rod kit with adjustable bump steer angled head
Elephant Racing Drop Link st adjustable length spherical bearing for 993 c2/turbo front with boots pair
Rear Drop Link set of 2 993 Tarett - July 18

The car drives really well but does tramline...especiallly in wet. The wheels fited are the Tramont Cup 2 RS Speedline type with 8.5 x 18 ET52 ON FRONT AND 10 X 18 ET 59 on rear with Toyo Proxies.

Hope this helps as really would like to get sorted so can enjoy.

Kind Regards
Andrew Glaysher

Thanks, apart from the too low suspension settings really pleased as car feels as solid as when new (I've had a number of aircooled 911's over the last 19 years and a 997). Looking forward to using it and hoping to take it to Prescott on the 22nd.

Im with Maurice on this, without RS carriers your track rods are at an unbelievable angle, if you boot it in any condition apart from straight do you need 2 hands on the wheel? (and a change of pants in the boot), it must bump steer like a bytch being that low.

I think the "Elephant Racing - Front Tie Rod kit with adjustable bump steer angled head" has been fitted to reduce bump steer looking at the list. RS carriers are definitely the factory preferred method but of course v expensive and were NLA for quite a while (are they available again yet?)

Edit: Snap I had not read the reply from Maurice when I replied.

Yep. RS carriers available from Porsche again, the Elephant Racing kit will surely help, cant help thinking not enough at that ride height though!!

Thanks guys, I'm going to try taking it to Turner Race Developments near Gloucester where 1 of the owners has a racing 964. Hopefully once on a ramp he will be able to see the setup with the H & R and Elephant Racing Kit. As I suspect my setup must be something like RS - Maybe at RS +10 the Elephant Racing Kit may improve the bump steer. May need a bit of trial and error. Only dropping car next wednesday but will post an update when see results.

Cheers

How low is the front?
As a very basic guide, my 993 CS runs at 62cm from centre of front arch to floor, which is lower than regular RS factory height spec.
If you are anywhere near as low as that on standard hub carriers, as many others have said it will be better to look at than drive, at least on the road! :)

Thanks for the info. I have just measured and my arches are 60.5cm so seems substantially lower than RS. I am most probably going to opt for Sport M030 ride height of 127 rear and 144 front...realize this is RS +20 and may spoil the look but practically I may be able to get it down my driveway of my new house (I can always lower again if have the clearance) Worst case would be having to sell...which is nor an option I want to consider.

Hi Maurice,

Just noticed your question at the end of your post. No I only viewed once before my purchase but yes has come with a fat history file with some 14k spent on the suspension and RS look over the last year. Also what attracted me to the car was 20+ serices it had so a well looked after car with great history which can be hard to find (I was actually looking for a 964 C2).
