993 C2 v 996 GT3

Had a lunch appointment in Kelso yesterday so decided to go in the GT3, as it was a lovely day, and naturally went the long way (94 miles instead of 62). A wonderful spirited drive there and equally good driving home the short way. The car is a complete, bellowing animal. Today I gave the 993 cab a short airing as it hadn't moved for two months and I like to keep everything freed up. Anyway a short spin which got everything up to temperature and cleaned the discs reminded me what a fantastic, real-world car it is - comfortable, pretty quick, nimble, very supple on its 17 inch rims and you can even hear the stereo! I've been thinking it really ought to go, if it's not going to be used, but now having second thoughts.......

Interesting dilemma! I've just put my 996 GT3 CS on the market, and am wondering how to replace it...
Current favourite is a 993 C2S.
Or something else?

Jealous of your CS, presuming it's the one with Paul Stephens. Even the correct shade of silver.... Not that I'd have been buying it, I suspect, though POA makes it hard to tell. I think a 993 C2S is definitely the one to go for, though a properly maintained C2 with high miles, which I could use the whole time, would suit me very well, and would tempt me away from the cab. The S versions are what everyone seems to want, and the prices reflect that, which puts me off. BTW I changed the 18's which were on the cab when I first saw it for 17's (on the excellent advice of R1 Organiser, Scott Laurie) and have never regretted it, particularly after trying his on 18's.....

Good luck with your sale (which won't take long!) and subsequent hunt.

Yes, mine's with Paul Stephens.
But it's not the POA one - it's the Polar Silver with PCCB and lower mileage.
I'm really looking for something I can drive more, but will still hold its value over say three years
Time will tell

I think a nicely spec'dand well maintained 993 C2 is the pick of the bunch mentioned above. Great build quality, excellent drive on the roads and very useable. It may not have the looks of the C2S but it is much nicer to drive. I have done a lot of miles in a C2S and a C2 and would pick the C2 every time.

8 times out of 10 I would prefer one to a GT3 .... but the other 2, the GT3 is fantastic. I think it will be difficult coming from a GT3 to 993 as you will really miss the engine. I would suggest you try and get a few miles in a C2 before you part your GT3 and make sure you want to swap.

All great cars and just depends on what you want to use the car for etc. Nice decision to make.

Interesting observation, Yoda. I shall certainly be doing a fair bit of test driving to find a car that feels right for me. Certainly including the C2 in the search would open up more possibilities, but I'm in no hurry - apart from suffering from Empty Garage Syndrome. My daily drive will get me through the winter if it has to.

Personal taste of course, but I prefer the look of the narrow bodied c2 over the c2s. The side bulges mess the lines to my eye. Each to his own of course, they're a fantasticly enjoyable car. Love driving mine on a quiet evening on the road between Keswick and Windermere. Magic.

Totally agree.

I would also agree with Richard that they drive best on 17" wheels. Ideal spec in my view would be C2 Coupe on 17s with air con (as long as it works as most don't). I don't think there is a lot to choose between pre and post varioram engines and if anything, the pre varioram cars feel like they go a little harder and rev more freely.

I think the market prefers post variorum cars with aircon and is a bit colour sensitive but I would always buy on condition.

PS - your GT3 looks very nice!

ive got a c2 on 17s its curvey drives very well indeed not quiet the s model shape but still a looker !!
its my 1st 911 ever & think itll be my last all 911s are nice but i love the air cooled sound
its outerthisworld
hope you enjoy whatever you get.
