993 C2S Alarm - PA1000 or PA2000 (Thatcham?)

Hi guys,
I am taking possession of my 1997 (02/1997) 911 993 CS2 in the next couple of days and am currently trying to sort out insurance.

I have noticed some owners detailing that their cars have a PA1000 and some stating theirs is a PA2000. Maybe the PA2000 is an upgraded PA1000?

My questions are as follows: Is it not the case that all 993s have a PA1000 alarm/immobiliser fitted as standard?I know that my 993 has the standard factory fit alarm and immobiliser. Which model is fitted to this car please; PA1000 or PA2000?What Thatcham category does my alarm conform to please?[/LIST] Thanks for your help in advance.

I can't help with exactly what model you have, but according to Thatcham's October 2007 List, both PA1000 and PA200 are Thatcham Catagory 1 approved. The approval numbers are:

PA1000: TC1-191/0695
PA2000: TC2-1112/0899

I downloaded the list from the web a couple of months ago, so if you can't find it I'd be happy to email you a copy if it's any help.

Porsche Customer Services can give you a certificate for your car if you fax/email a copy of the V5C to prove that you own it - and it's one of the few things they don't charge for!

Thanks Richard. I am pretty sure it is a PA1000 so that means it should be Thatcham 1 classified.

TTBoMK all Carrera S should have the later fob type PA1000 as standard, which as Richard says is Thatcham approved. Hamilton & Palmer did all UK cars and are also a good source of help / info.

cheers, Maurice [:D]

Err... think that should read "later fob type PA2000", Maurice.
Like what I got on mine.

Hi John.
Do you know when the newer PA2000 alarm system was introduced on the 993 model? I noticed that your 993 was registered in August 1997 whereas my C2S was registered in February. I state this because my car is a 'P' registered 993, however IIRC the 'R' registration began in August 1997. Is it possible that mine is a PA1000 and yours a PA2000 taking that the PA2000 alarm may have been introduced with the 'R' registered 993s? I have nothing to base this on, just wondered if this was the case.

Interesting information Guys and thanks for your replies.
It would seem likely that mine will be a PA1000. Anybody know which 993s were supplied with the PA2000 (993 TT?) and what the difference is between the PA1000 and the PA2000 systems?
