993 c2s v c4s?

Would be interested in any experience/view within forum on relative merits between 993 c2s & c4s. Looking for my first car now. I believe I am aware of the relative spec differences between the two ( ie in short - 4s basically turbo brakes/suspension config, 2s standard car but both lower stung, wide hips!! and turbo alloys) but was interested in some of the more subtle aspects of ownership. Heard 4s much more expensive to maintain/run "" true, if so why, handling characteristics I appreciate will be somewhat different given drive differences but in normal conditions probably. 4s was clearly a much more expensive car when new ( £75k v £65k for 2s I believe) but prices now seem broadly similar "" perhaps 4s + £1-1.5k over 2s. Why not a larger premium for 4s?

Tradionalists go for 2wd, hence the smaller premium for the 4wd compared to their prices when new.
4wd slightly more noseheavy with a touch more understeer - although this can be dialed out. Brakes and chassis are superior on the C4S.
It depends on personal driving pref, but I prefer the safety net of the 4wd in this country given my car is not a "summer use only" vehicle and 993s do not benefit from PASM etc.
Drive both - they do feel quite different "out of the box", but they can be easily tailored to be quite similar based on your preference.

disadvantage of the 4wd system means.. (from what I recall)
  • additional servicing & maintenance costs and requirements
  • different tyre life (rears last a bit more, but the front wear a bit more)
  • slightly higher fuel costs
  • bit more understeer
  • much smaller boot space up front

4S will be heavier because of the heavier brakes and transmission.

Any differences in suspension when first produced probably now academic because many owners will have replaced dampers and possibly springs by now.

In the case of the dampers fitted (including C2 and C4), many will now be running with better quality than original.
