993 C4 Cruise Control

Hi,

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction with a Cruise Control fault on my 993 C4?

1) When the car is used regularly, the cruise control works perfectly

2) If the car stands for a number of weeks, the cruise control will not work, sometimes for a few days, until I go on a long run, when it mysteriously starts to work again perfectly.

3) If the car continues to be used regularly, the cruise continues to work perfectly once again.

4) If the car stands for some time, it reverts to not working once again.

I'm not familiar with the system but it appears as if something is "sticking" with lack of use but "frees up" again with regular usage.

Any ideas, (other than keep using the car regularly! ) would be greatly appreciated.

My thanks,

Alan

Alan,
I had a problem with the Cruise Control on my 993 - it stuck ON at around 85mph on a French autoroute and none of the standard ways of disengaging it worked, including taking the fuse out when I finally managed to get through a peage. A little disconcerting at the time. However I had not used it for some time before it happened and eventually it "freed off" and when I got back to the UK JZ Machtec took the unit off the car and basically re-built it. They could find nothing basically wrong and after that it worked fine again.
The unit is basically mechanical and located behind and on top the engine and not easy to get at. I would recommend getting yours checked/re-built as if it sticks on like mine did it is not good news if you are going quickly.
Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for the reply. Sorry I've taken so long to thank you, but I was waiting for an email alert from the forum, which didn't arrive.

Best regards,

Alan
