993 C4 values

Hi all

I am hoping that the collective knowledge of the forum will be able to provide some guidance here.

I am considering the purchase of a 993 C4 coupe (manual) which is a 96P with a stated 35K miles. MOTs and service invoices appear to support this mileage.

What would you consider a realistic private sale price (i.e. the price I may end up paying) for such a vehicle?

regards
Nick

Nick,
Obviously, it's going to be dependant upon condition and assumuming it's not got any wacky colour combinations (these can affect resale)! Given it's in good nick, I'd suggest £24 / 25k with that mileage.

Regards,
Phil

Nick, it is rare to find them with nice low mileage like that now. Especially documented with the paperwork. Colour combo is fine/sought after by some. Like Phil says condition can vary quite a bit. Has the windscreen ever been changed (creating rust around the sides/bottom from mis-fitting?). If you were buying from a dealer it would be over £30K, but would have a front end respray to tidy it up etc. So private, with perhaps a few imperfections I'd say £25-27K at that mileage.

If it has not been driven much in recent years you might find the odd surprise payout (clutch?). They prefer to be driven.

Get a PPI inspection done - will help you haggle the price down!

Good luck.

Thanks to both who have replied so far.

Vendor is asking £30K which feels a bit high to me for a private sale. I would guess the screen is original - there were no obvious problems with the screen surround area (any bubbling paint or similar).

I would very much welcome any further thoughts with regard to pricing and desirability in that colour combination. For me it is acceptable but not my first choice, so it's a slight negative in that regard.

Nick

Well, the seller has had it advertised since late Summer last year, which also concerns me a little. If it was priced right I think it would have been sold by now. Or there's something I'm missing...

Or he's not advertising it properly. Many a good car has gone unnoticed due to poor and badly placed ads.

I would say Mark is bang on with his estimate of 25-27k being acceptable for a private sale.

However one thing I would say for these cars is that when you see your car you get a feeling for it and know it's right. If you don't have that feeling and you aren't smitten then my advice is to keep looking.

Sounds like good advice. I think with this one the price is too high and I'm insufficiently smitten, so I'll keep looking.

Nick

I would also agree with Mark, that a low milleage 993 is £25 - £27k as they are getting few and far between.

Plenty of 80,000 - 120,000 mile cars available in the market, which although offer excellent value for money if well serviced, are not suitable if you are looking for a low mileage example to keep.
