993 Cabriolet Replacement Rear Screen

Hi

The 993 Cab I am purchasing has a very scratched rear screen with a split in it

Southbound Trimmers say that as the screen is bonded in, they cannot replace it sucessfully and recommend a new hood @ £950 approx plus VAT and fitting.

Porscheshop advertise a replacement rear screen for a 993 for £395, presumably a sew in item?

Does anyone have experience with this option?

Cheers

Pete

They obviously don't sell many of these replacements then [:)]

Does everyone just replace the hood?

Cheers

NO you dont need to replace the whole hood, when I got mine I just replaced the plastic, cost about£350

Pete,

I have just had the same issue arise. You don't need to replace the whole hood unless the stitching of the rest of the hood is perishing. Often the need to replace the rear screen arises because the stitching is wearing out. When they take the hood off to sew the new screen in and stretch the hood over the machines the remainder of teh stitching may well pull apart if the whole hood is old. That at least is the information I have been given. My mechanic (Simon Hope based in Henley) has details of a fitter who can do it for you. Let me know if you still need the details. Regards

Michael

Hi,

Thanks for the info

The rest of the hood seems to be fine, which is why I am reluctant to replace the whole thing

I would definately be interested in talking to someone who could have a look at it. Could you send the details to me at peteb@compuserve.com ?

Cheers

Pete
