Have read various posts on 993 suspension upgrades and was wondering if anybody could help with specific comments for a 97 cabriolet 4. It runs on 17' Cup wheels. I have measured the current ride height based on Adrian Streather stats the current susp must have settled - current heights (f)145mm and (r)132mm. looks like red and violet (poss pink) std springs. Mileage 45K. If I want to replace the shocks and it seems opinion is best to buy Bilstein HD but what are best springs to get? Do not really want to lower from where its sits now (3 speed bumps into house) and should not think a cabriolet body really appropriate for Mo30 stiffer rating. Like the sound of recent posted Mo33 comments but that was on a coupe. The front of my car feels light and floaty (unless full tank full etc) when pushing on over less than flat roads and that is I suppose why I want to replace, particularly if all web comments of std shocks "gone" at 45k miles are to be believed. If I do not go Mo30 or Mo33 route am I left with only choice = std new springs on Bilstein HD shocks which will I assume take the car back to original heights of (f) 154 (r) 147. The car is only likely to be use on the road not tracked .

Hi, little point in buying replacement original spec springs unless the old ones have actually failled. If you go for Bilstein HDs then the installer will be able to set it to the correct height by using the threaded adjustment on the shock absorbers.
I would suggest your best options are just to replace the shock absorbers with Bilstein HDs plus new bushes etc. or M033 springs with Bilstein HDs. M033 springs have the same rates as the standard springs but are shorter thus giveing you a lower ride height. MO30 springs will give the same ride height as M033 but are stiffer (with a progressive rate) giving a firmer ride.
If it were my Cabriolet and used just on the road I would probably go M033 with Bilstein HDs. Anything more "hard core" will result in a deterioration in ride and given that the Cabriolet is less structurally stiff than the coupe, probably little improvement in handling.
I am sure others will be along to give their views.

Thanks for advice what bushes do you mean the wishbones/anti rol bar? I will change shocks to HD Bilstein just need to decide whether to stick with original shocks or get M033. Does not seem much point in changing springs to M033 if the same spring rate as original but simply shorter to give lower height, surely that just means car will bottom out quicker. But that said the current springs appear to have "settled". In that context I assume that the new shocks will be better than the existing and not allow the car body movement to push through the shorter (M033) spring or the originals as fast? Take the point about cab not being as "strong" but I wanted the soft top so had to compromise.

yes by bushes I mean the anti roll bar bushes and the front wishbones. I agree about the springs. No point spending on the M033 springs unless you want the car to be lower.
You will probably find with new shock absorbers the car has less of a tendancy to bottom out.
Also, have you thought about front strut brace? I have been told by cabriolet and Targa owners that it is an improvement.
