993 cigarette lighter - should it light up and Which headlight bulbs?

Elliot

When i brought my 993 it did not have a cigarette lighter so i ordered one from Porsche Cambridge. After fitting i have noticed however that even though there is a light at the back of the unit that none shines though the lighter symbol.

Can you guys confirm if this should be the case or do i need to go back to porsche to source the correct one.

i am also looking at changing bulbs in the Headlights, which do you recommend for a better illumination.

cheers Elliot

The general consensus seems to be that the cigarette lighter doesn't light up (there's no bulb in the pull out unit, only the caddy) - although I seem to recall some people said their's did, so perhaps there are some different units around.

On the headlights front, the first thing I did was change to Osram Silverstars, which were far better than the original bulbs, and a cheap option to get more light on the road. As soon as the price of HIDs fell to an acceptable level (now less then £100) I switched to those. A 20 minute job to fit and far, far better than the other options. Of course, it makes the driving lights look horribly yellow, but I can live with that. After all, I'm on the inside lookig out...

Hi there,

HID kit from Carnewal is completely excellent but you can switch the sidelights to an LED item Gert sells. Pretty cheap and look ok but a bit too 'max power' for me. Happy to sell them on for a tenner is anyone wants to try them in their sidelights...

Oh - Ciggy lighter dark!

Cheers,

Mark

I think we've had this question before, and I'm pretty sure the consensus was "no".

My cigarette lighter certainly dosn't illuminate, '94 car, but I would be interested to hear if anyone elses does.

(How sad is that.)

The pull-out part of a cig lighter generally doesn't illuminate. The light behind, on some cars, is to illuminante a plastic ring round the holder or the holder inside, so owners get the hot lighter back in the hole without burning the outside!

(Sorry - more of this thread!) On a related subject - is the rear-window-demist knob supposed to light up dimly when the side/head lights are on?

Mine lights up brightly when I switch on the rear demister, but is unilluminated otherwise.

Whereas the other two knobs (front and rear fogs) light dimly when side/heads are on and brightly when their respective fogs are on...

Mark, Just checked mine,

All three switches have the end symbol illuminated when side lights are on. If you operate the switch then the symbol increases in brightness.
