No doubt some of you have experienced the infamous door strap problem on your 993s. I was curious to know if anyone has approached Porsche to get ask them to meet the cost of fixing this inherent design fault, and if so, how did you get on? My offside door is in need of attention and I don't particularly relish the prospect of paying for it.

yeah my Dad just had his done on the drivers side door, to repair it need the door taking off and a bit of welding. It didnt cost too much to have done i dont think, and its a fairly straight forward process. Does yours make that really loud clicking noise when you open and close the door? it gets rid of that anyway. il post again later when my Dad get home and let you know how much it costs to have done.

To make the repair properly requires the front wing to be removed and refitted so it can be fixed from the back. Not as drastic as it sounds. If it is just welded from the door side then whilst it fixes the problem the repair does not last as long.
Ring some of the well know independends. Ask them how they do it and how much. They should be able to give you a quote straight off the bat as its a well known repair. I don't think it is a huge amount.

recently repaired my door straps before they required a welding repair, took an hour & half to do both sides, took off the door internal trim (10 min job aside), removed the two 10mm headed bolts holding the strap to the door and punched the pin on the wing post.
Took the unit to bits by bending back the two folded over metal clips, took out the two rubber trims (that had gone hard and were locking onto the strap arm causing the clicking) trimmed a couple of mm's off each with a Stanley knife, greased and replaced-simple as that.
might have to experiment with how much rubber to trim off.

Porsche covered the full cost of my check-strap repair 2 years ago. It would have been about £350 at an approved bodyshop otherwise. They commented at the time that my full dealer service history helps to get the support of Porsche GB. If you don't ask, you don't get!

I recently had the drivers door on my 993 C2S repaired at Selbys (official porsche repair centre) in Nottingham at a cost of 338 pounds inc VAT. The door was removed, a hole was cut in the bulkhead to gain access to the rear of the check strap in the A pillar. The check strap was plated and re - welded, the panel removed from the bulkhead was then re - welded in place, resprayed and sealed as required. Door was then replaced. As this is the official Porsche method of repair, it also carries a liftime guarantee. Although I have extendded warranty on the car, Porsche would not entertain the cost of the repair even though it is a common fault.
