993 door wing mirrors stolen??

I suspect at some stage I will get round to etching them - it may not stop them being nicked but at least it will make it difficult to sell them on to any but the most unscrupulous of buyers...
Every time I see a 964 or older 928 with teardrop mirrors, I want to stop them and ask for my mirrors back. I'm afraid that the mania for updating, making a vehicle look newer or funkier that it really is, keeping up with the Joneses, is as responsible as activities of the the thieves themselves.
Negative dialectics, reification and car ownership, or am I musing on my own here?

It's also far from cheap to replace them!
Such items on Ebay are advertised with either lugs complete or snapped off. If they are broken, then the mirror is certainly stolen. If it is complete, then the item is still stolen but by a thief with a gentler approach to the removal of another person's property.
It must be said that 993s look far better without mirrors, in fact I reckon the thieves are doing us all a favour.

Naturally I need to replace them as soon as possible as driving is impossible without them. Does any body know how difficult it is to source / replace these things please? Costs etc"¦
Who would do such a thing?

I now have old style 964 mirrors which, I believe, are less attractive to thieves.
My heart seriously goes out to you, but how can you put rectangular wing mirrors on the gorgeously-shaped 993? Car cover or find a garage? [&:]
I agree, these folk should have their toenails pulled out one by one (well, almost all of them!) []
If police clamped down on (had a major, well publicized, campaign against) fairly obviously stolen property on ebay then it migth have some impact on this type of behaviour.
Think I'll take my mirrors of and mark them with my license plate number, or perhaps my PCGB number, so at least I'll be able to give the police a way to identify them should they disappear one night. But I don't expect them to go looking.
Actually suspect mirrors currently on my car may have come from a "source" other than an OPC or the factory. I was touching up a stone chips at the weekend, one on the driver's mirrors revealed red paint under the black.[&:]

It is covered, the thieves must know that there is a 993 under there

If that pops up a few times on their items they might start getting concerned. Next time they sell a cheap item bid on it. There's nothing that freaks people on eBay who would rather remain anonymous out more than knowing that someone who they can't identify is on their case...
Where I am (Liverpool & Manchester) people tend to leave 911's alone as they think they're owned by a drug dealer!

Finally managed to source a pair of replacements, hopefully they will be ready by the weekend.
If anybody every calls me a Porsche to*ser my response will be an apt one "it's scum like you that made me so""¦
