993 engine bay wiring loom safety recall

Hello,
I have today joined the Porsche club after recently buying a 993. Unfortunately things haven’t gone that well from the offset. I could do with a bit of advise and members thoughts?
Basically I have just discovered the wiring loom at the back of the alternator has burnt out. I’m aware the 993’s had a recall to have this problem rectified as there was a chance of an electrical fire. I’ve been in contact with Porsche and they confirm the problem was addressed on my car when it went in under the recall. I’ve been told it went to Chester Porsche. After looking at photos on the internet and reading up on the issue it looks like if they did actually change the wiring loom they have made things worse and not eliminated the fire risk. After calling the dealers in Wolverhampton they were more than willing to come and collect the car but would charge me the recovery to the garage, £265 an hour diagnostic and then the cost of the repair! To me this is totally unacceptable as it’s the work they (Porsche) did to address the risk of an electrical fire that has almost caused one!
I can’t drive the car and can’t even take the risk of connecting the battery! Have any other members come across the same problem?

Many thanks

Pete

I think my take on it would be that even if it’s had the recall fitted not to your perceived standards, it’s lasted a good 25 years plus and I would have no expectation for Porsche to repair it.

You have no idea how many pairs of hands have been in there in the interim, professionals or amateurs, so who is to say that the wiring is even as Porsche left it. Welcome to the joys of classic motoring!

Shame about the problem. How recently is "recently"? If the dealer didn't provide any sort of warranty then you may get somewhere with the Consumer Rights Act 2015. This act protects customers by requiring that vehicles are "of satisfactory quality", "as described", and "fit for purpose" at the time of sale. If a dealer fails to meet these criteria, they must rectify any faults at their own cost. Worth discussing with the dealer whilst attempting to maintain a friendly relationship, or discussing with Citizens Advice to get some guidance on the time/mileage limit for such issues.

Good advice & comments from Ben & Dave. If you purchased this recently you may have a chance of the dealer helping you out, Porsche wont

A decent indy or auto electrician can sort that out for a few hundred quid I would guess, dont get upset, get it fixed and start enjoying it!
