993 engine in 1985 carrera

Hi guys. Has anyone got experience of installing a 993 engine and gearbox into a 1985 carrera? I'm fed up with my 915 gearbox and I'd like to get some extra HP going through the rear wheels but the idea of spending £££ on squeezing a few extra HP out of my old engine doesn't add up. I'm guessing there would be some body work alterations for the larger gearbox, but I use a very good bodywork guy, so I'm hoping it's possible. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

That conversion I think will involve some serious mods to the rear torsion bars and obviously the conversion of the pedal box for the hydraulic clutch. I'm sure some time back another member was attempting a similar conversion, which was mentioned on this forum somewhere. Try the search engine, which I never seem to get any joy from.

I understand that to swap from a 915 to a G50 gearbox involves major surgery in both the suspension & under body regions! Speak to Mark at 9M and he'll scare the idea out of you!

A G50 can be fitted to a car by having the tranny shortened so the torsion bars can remain. Some special brackets do have to be made though and welded to the car.
Fitting a 993 tranny will need the car converted to coil overs though and a lot of cutting to the car.
