In the november edition there is a multi-page feature with the heading:
'Last of the great 911's'

Took them long enough to find out what we all knew aaaages ago. [8|]

Mike,
I think you will find this mag. has published several similar features over a period of years. I collected them prior to my 993 purchase, and very helpful they were. The new editor Mr Bennet is also new to 993s which you may have picked up on. Still he lives in the depth's of Norfolk which may account for his lack of previous 993 experience! Don't hold it against him. As you will have read he is a convert and wants one. Bully for him.

Nice article. Nothing really new but I love reading articles that validate my buying decision. I also like the way it keeps stating that the 993 is a "classic" and highly sought after by enthusiasts. It's the best thing for residuals since Evo magazine ran one as a long term test.

BTW can anybody explain where they get the service costs from? They indicate the following:-

6000 miles - £150
12000 miles - £ 195
24000 miles £620

I am getting quotes nearly double that amount. Anybody care to share their standard service costs so that we can build up a database?

That's interesting - Northways class a 24 & 48K service as the same thing? 48K should include a fuel filter and transmission oil change.

It seems to me that some IPS's don't seem to work to the official schedules - there doesn't seem to be a 6000 service in the maintenance schedule at all.

I can vouch for Wrightune - very genuine and Tony Wright is a very helpful guy. Situated about 15 minutes from Henley on Thames. Simon Hope at Hillcrest Porsche in Stoke Row (10 mins Henley) also good.

Trust me Independants will service your car a lot better than an OPC, by the way there isnt a a 6000 mile service requirement for 993's though annual is advisable, even if its only an oil and filters service.
Regarding Northways I had the fuel filter and transmission oil changed as part of the 24k service when I purchased my car. Typically Northways tend to do that bit more as standard. When I had my 964 his std 12k service was everyones elses 24k ie Ray said to me I might as well adjust the tappets whilst I'm underneath doing the plugs and I've got all the tinware off as it only takes an extra '10 minutes'

Yes, another reason for using a trusted independent.

I had a major service at an independant recently, I won't mention their name again otherwise you will think I on some kind of commission. Anyway, they had a really good way of describing part of the work--- 'change all fluids' and it meant exactly that, anything you could pour got changed. I like to keep things simple.

I will adjust your tappets for free - they are hydraulic and don't need adjusting - maybe your garage were just testing you, or trying your knowledge out ;-)
