993 : 'floppy' clutch pedal

I am a very new owner of a 1996 C2 (38000 miles; full PSH and very regularly maintained etc). This morning the clutch pedal was lying virtually flat, with only an inch or so movement to the floor and no bite 'feel'. I couldn't engage any gear. Rang the RAC (well done the technician!) who appeared to just move the pedal backwards and forwards a few times by hand. The pedal then returned to the correct position, and I could engage gear without difficulty. Any ideas as to whet might have caused this (temporary I hope) issue?

Cant see it being any to do with the bearing, sounds like the clutch cylinder is faulty and not achieving pressure

Probably not either of the above, but see:

What the RAC man did was just free it up by operating it, I reckon.
A 38k car would not have seen much operation of the clutch pedal over 18 years... (i.e. average of 2,100 miles a year!)
Hopefully, it might not occur again, if the car is used a bit more[;)].

A hanging pedal is often a sign that clutch slave cylinder is going - a fairly common problem on these cars. I had to have mine done very soon after purchase. You can try lubricating the pedal mechanism first just in case it's that, or even bleeding the system. A quick search online should find the info. required.

Many thanks to all who responded to my question. Food for thought, and good clues, for the OPC technician!

Yes freeing up the clutch pedal (as per the Pelican Parts link) may well only solve the problem temporarily - eventually you may need to replace the slave cylinder.

I had exactly the same experience - freeing it up worked for a while but I eventually had to have the slave cylinder replaced (two years ago) and the problem hasn't re-appeared.
