993 Geometry plus

Hello fellow 993 drivers,

Bit of advice appreciated for my manual 1995 N plate C2 - 3 topics!

1. Rear wiper arm snapped - any thoughts on suppliers please?

2. Squeak going over speed bumps etc at low speed - is this caused by the front anti roll bar bushes and, if so, can I remedy it relatively easily?

3. This is the big one, just replaced the tyres today (from P Z Rosso's to Michelin Pilot Sports) and the rears were fairly heavily worn on the outside, fronts not so heavily worn, on the inside. Think car requires a geometry check, any advice on where to go in region of Swindon/Oxford?

All advice gratefully received,

Martyn Skeer

PS When I move on from being an analogue man in the digital age I'll put a picture of my car etc at the end of my comments!

Autofarm (north of Oxford) will do a full geometry alignment (bear in mind just a tracking check will not tell the whole story) as will Reading OPC and I dare say Swindon OPC. A proper job inc rear kinetic thingy is essential to get your car handling as Porsche intended.

Mine squeaks too over bumps- only in cold weather, so can't really blame it!

Try Porsch-Apart for a rear wiper arm? http://www.porsch-apart.co.uk/

Robert,

Thanks for advice on geometry check, I've arranged it with Autofarm for next week. Around £150 for the check plus ensuing labour for corrections sounds reasonable to me? Also spoken to Porsch-Apart and their view is that you're best off to buy a new one as it's a common snag. The OPC in Swindon have stated that it's a common problem so I guess that sounds reasonable.

Maurice,

Thanks too for your help. Hadn't thought of the total removal option, I'll make a note to be more observant next time it's wet and see how I cope with a wet rear screen.

I'll try the vaseline option for the bushes, do you have a rough estimate of time for an idiot to do it? I'll also email a pic of the car to you - thanks for the offer. Finally, and I know that I'll kick myself when you tell me, TTBoMK??

If you treat the rear screen with Rejex or Rain-X or somesuch, the water just runs off. The only time you might need it is if the car is rained on whilst parked and you need to reverse... haven't used mine once in the year I've owned it, and yes I do drive it in the rain!

The alignment price looks spot on- I paid PCT £220 for them to tell me it was spot on. Pah.

Rob, Maurice,

This has been my first (ever) foray into a forum and I've found it very useful and friendly, so, many thanks for the advice, all noted. Now recognised by forum software as PCGB member, car booked in for geo check, going to vaseline the farbb and debating no-wiper option (although I'll avoid your personal removal technique M!!). I'll email you the pic just as soon as I can get my phone-camera to talk to my computer ..... just had a thought, think I can email to you direct from my phone. I'll give it a try.

I would like to get the geometry / alignment checked on my 4 wheel drive 993 cab (1995), and recommendations of where to get it done in the north london area (where i live) or southend (where i work)

also need to change all 4 tyres....got pirelli 215/45/zr17 at front and (goodyear) 255/40/zr17 at back.....obviously like to get same brand.....what is everyone recommending these days.....and of course a cheap place to buy them :)

any help appreciated [:)]

thanks

Sanjay

Sanjay,

I've put a new set of Michelin Pilot Sports on this week, cost was £485. I only offer that as a price comparable, they are on the appproved list, but I couldn't say how they relate to others when it comes to the road!

I found a list of tyres that Maurice had produced on another thread, very useful too.
