I have a 993 turbo which had a spot of rust just
Under the windscreen which I took to a Porsche specialist to have fixed at the time of leaving the car with them they told me that I had to have windscreen out to repair which I did after getting the car back with 2 months the spot of rust re appears took the car back now there saying that windscreen doesn't need to come out to be fixed I've left the car with them but just don't feel 100 confident has anyone got any ideas or am I being played ? please help

To me it looks like they never removed the windscreen for the first repair because, if they had, they would easily have noticed the need for the second repair at the time.

I guess they just did a patch up job and now want to do same again.

I'd stop using them immediately and go to someone recommended for this type of repair - where are you based?

I don't know your area, hopefully someone will be along soon who has had the windscreen rust problem sorted in Essex

Is the rust in the same place as previously Andreas? If so then it is almost certain that they did not have the screen taken out. If it's in a different place then it is possible that the fitters who removed the screen damaged the paintwork, allowing rust to set in - but I wouldn't have expected it to become visible as quickly as two months.

Did the bodyshop charge for the removal and re-fit of the screen? Most bodyshops get someone in to do it and will list the charge separately on the invoice.

As Mark has said the best answer is to use someone else but I can understand your reluctance to do that as you will already have outlaid a not insignificant amount of money. The bottom line is that they have not done the job they contracted to do, so I would want them to repair it but would want to inspect every part of the process. Firstly ask to see the car with the screen removed so you can see exactly what the problem is before they start any work. Secondly once they have cleaned up the rust view it before any paint is applied so you can see that all the rust is gone. Thirdly inspect the paint before the screen is fitted. Lastly witness the screen going back in to ensure it is positioned in the aperture correctly.

It's a bit of a bind and will take up a bit of your time but you have just cause to believe they will not do the job properly as they didn't last time and there is a lot of "time bombs" they can leave, either deliberately or accidently, under the rubber that wont surface for a couple of years or so.

On the basis a spot of rustis less than a cm worth

1 - How much did you pay first! This may help clarify. I would expect nearer £800 -1000 inc vat, plus a windscreen if required (or £500 if left in). They should have warned you as its likely to break! Did you have new rubber?

2 - Quote Sale of Goods act, rust back in 2 months can only be down to a shocking job. So go that way for a FOC fix. Even rampant rust shouldnt come back that quickly. With windscreen out and a full job done it should last at leat a couple of years and a lot longer if garage queen that never gets wet!

3 - follow Clyde's suggestions if you take it back, you should as it should be FOC

Thanks guys for your replies and will go back to garage and go through the process of making sure that they take screen out and go back at every stage of work this time thanks I paid around the 700 pounds mark I recall

Make sure when the screens refitted that whoever does the job gets correct insert fitting kit - otherwise you will have issues with the screen creaking[]

These are available from Porsche Centre. Pleny of advice both on here and just search on Google

I had a rust problem which was slowly getting worse and very noticeable on the passenger side bottom corner of my Silver 993 turbo.

As the windscreen on the car was in need of replacing my regular long term specialist 'Paragon' in Sussex combined the fitting of a new screen and sorted out the rust and re-sprayed the area including a new rubber and the black plastic strips at the top of the bonnet. There was also a trace of rust on the roof which was concealed by the rubber which they nipped in the bud too.

The car is garaged and well looked after and so far it still looks like new and I have every confidence that it will last as my experiences over 7 years with Paragon are second to none.

I seem to remember the re-fit, rust repair, paint and labour was around £670.

Good luck with yours
Anto
