993 immobiliser problem - I think...

I hope someone can help.

My 97 993 has been resting over the summer and the battery charger got unplugged during this time. The car was totally flat for a period of time. I've purchased a new battery which I fitted this morning and everything seemed to work fine.

The alarm went off but responded to the key straight away and the central logging was fine. All going well until I tried to start the car, the engine turned over as normal but the engine didn't fire at all.

It seemed like the immobiliser was allowing the starter motor but not allowing the engine to fire.

Does anyone have any experience of this and can anyone tell me if there is an immobiliser reset which needs to be activated?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Morgan

Suggest posting to 993 forum, if you haven't already.

I am not aware of anything secondary that immobilises the immobiliiser. But its worth double checking what most of them are supported by. & palmer.

The most likely culprit is the DME relay(in the fuse box) it should click once when you turn the ignition on and once again when you start turning over
the engine over. Worth carrying a spare, but try giving it a few good hard taps, if you are feeling more adventurous you can take the plastic cover and check that the relays are working properly.

I agree with Gordon, The immobilizer has no reset procedure and the fact that it responds to the key presses suggests that its functioning ,Your idea of a bad relay within the alarm box is possible but they tend to use two relays for each interrupted circuit so its unlikely that is your problem but not impossible. Gordons advice about the dme relay is the next thing to check along with all the fuses and can you hear the fuel pump buzzing in lower part of the front luggage compartment either when somebody is cranking the engine or if you bridge out one of the relays within the dme relay box?
