993 Key Stuck

I can't get the key out of the ignition of my 993.

The car starts/stops on the key,but it just won't come out of the lock.

It's a tiptronic, and but the car is definitely in park when I'm trying to remove the key. The light on the dash says it's in park, and I wouldn't be able to start it if it wasn't in Park.

Any ideas gratefully received.

There is a bowden cable that connects the lever to the ignition switch barrel, to prevent the key being removed in N, D or R.. I'd look for a problem there. There is a copy of the instructions here: http://www.richard.hamilton8.btinternet.co.uk/tipcontrols.pdf (about 1Mb).

That was very helpful. Turned out the button screwed onto the top of the shift was getting stuck inside the gear knob. The cable only seems to release the key if the shifter is in the Park position AND the button is fully up. Once I'd unscrewed the button the key was released. A bit of WD40 in the button seating area before screwing the button back on seems to have everything working perfectly again.
