993 - Please help with new purchase re Air con

After looking for some time I think I've found good model that I will buy.
Seller seems really honest and helpful, the car has history from new. I have strictly followed POC buyers and Adrian Crawfords advice and technical selection criteria.
However the car is basically standard with no optional extra which is OK for me except the seller says there is no air con - IS THIS TRUE ?
I thought that is was factory standard - It would really help me if someone could confirm this and also list standard factory fit items.
Thanks for your help
Best regards

dont know about the full list as standard-but aircon definately wasnt on it-tbh if youre used to "modern"aircon you probably wouldnt notice if it did or didnt[:D]-whilst quite pleasant the aircon on 993`s is not of the "cold"variety!(imo)

John,
Air con was an amazing £2375 extra in 993 days!
Although it was "standard equipment" on the Targa, Turbo and the C2S/C4S models.

BTW - I don't agree with Dylan - the air con on my 993 can create an ice sculpture out of me if I leave "big snow flake" button on too long. It's great. I tend to drive with small snow flake on 365 days a year and just make the temperature correct with the temperature dial. But it is not a modern "climate control" with heat sensors in different parts of the car etc. One heat sensor built into the control unit.

Before you ask - yes you can retro fit - but previous discussions on this have concluded that it is cheaper to sell the car and look for one with aircon....

What good advice on you 993 (yes nine, nine, three) post on this forum! How fitting it was on the correct model register.

My aircon still works and I haven't had it re-gassed in the six years I have owned the car. That is pretty good in a thirteen year old car, and speaks volumes for the quality of the original fitment.

If I get round to having it re-gassed I am sure it will be much more effective. However the weather is so damn cold at the moment, I usually drive around with the heater on, never mind the aircon.

I would not turn away a good car just because it has no Air Con unless you are really desparate for one with. How many days a year do you really need it ? Open the windows and sunroof and listen to the exhaust.

My car has Aircon fitted, does not work in usual 993 fasion and I would have prefered if it wasnt fitted. Had a look to see if I can remove the pump etc but this would leave the pipes across the engine bay as they are hard connected to the solid lines.

Just my own opinion.

I'm from the 'wouldn't be without it' camp. I guess it depends how often you will use car in hot weather and at speeds where you don't want the windows/sunroof open.

+1 and mine still blows ice cold nearly 7 years after last re-gas. Would not be without it even during the winter - the amount of heat that enters the passenger compartment is staggering and after standing even the drivers sill starts to get quite warm from the oil return pipes beneath.

One of the reasons changed from a 3.2 to a 993 was because it had Aircon. I guess it's dependent on how and when you use the car. For me it makes the car more usable on a regular basis and it demists the screen very quickly. Like Mark my aircon appears to be very effective on both settings.

My 993 doesnt have aircon, actually a plus in my view, the cars lighter (read Faster !!) without all the gubbins and in this country how often do you Really need it !!!

I'm glad I got a car with it when on a long motorway journey in hot weather, or during wet weather for demisting but the rest of the time (ie. 95%) I I am just dragging 20kg of fluid, pipes and metal around the car for no reason. It is also a bit of a wallet drainer when it goes wrong.

In fact, to keep my power-to-weight ration low, I was forced to ditch the standard comfort seats and replace with 2 GT3 items.

I have Air-con and have had it fixed once it decided to stop working as I thought it most worthwhile, especially in the hot summers. I have heard many varied stories about how cold they should and do get, and there are threads about after market ones too which perhaps are better as they are more advanced than the ones originally installed. I like to drive in comfort Spring, Summer etc"¦ JzMachtech replaced mine, not cheap but happy with the work done, no problems with it.

John, because of some of the comments made above, I was advised to have it on any 993 when I bought and am happy I did ... apart from when both the condenser and evaoporater went last year which was a 4 figure repair bill. Just make sure it works [properly] before you buy.

John - since you have asked about relays does this mean you now have a 993? If so it would be interesting to know what you decided about air con...

Ironically I'd had the air con recharged prior to setting off for Le Mans as well [:(]

Had mine recharged ready for the Le Mans Classic [8D] don't usually need it much over here - it's too bloody cold, even in the summer, nowadays[:(]
