993 PRINCE Rear Baby Seat

Guest

New member
I have recently become the proud owner of a LHD 97 C2S with 40,000 miles.

Having now bought the car I need to sort out a baby seat for the little man. At the moment he is seven months old and I have been told that from nine months the Prince Child seat will do the job. Can anyone who has one of these seats please let me know if they are any good, straight forward to fit and whether there is anything else I should know. Any comments greatly appreciated.

Teee,
I have one of the Porsche Seats (I think its the prince, its got teady bears and cars on it), its a modular design that will allow the seat to be fitted to most of the Porsche range.
The problem you'll find with the 911 is that the rear seats are very upright, this means that when the little chap falls asleep he drops forward into what looks like a very uncomfortable position.
The way I'm using it currently as a full seat rather than just a booster, it still only relies on the regular seat belt to hold the child in! Not very good. I'd say that there ok for short journeys from a comfort point of view, however, from a safety perspective I reckon they're a pile of poop!
Think hard on this one, I'd be tempeted to go to a specialist seat retailer and try a few, most are really helpfull. I know that there are seats out there, FWIW, I saw a C2S in Tesco's the other day with a child seat fitted in the passenger seat.

Good luck

Thanks for the info. Interesting about the comfort factor when they are asleep. Just goes to show what you don't think about.............................

Hate to say this but the Porsche seat is no good EVEN on short journeys. Its worth money to purchase a proper seat which has good head support.

I have two kids aged 2 and 4 and for each of the 911s I have had, I have been to QuickFit (details in PPost). They advise on the best seat, fit them and also lengthen rear belts if required. They are not cheap, bu sometimes ones has to pay extra for peace of mind. Idid and I do not regret it for one moment.

I am now driving in a 964 coupe, with two happy kids at the back!

I'd agree with most of the above and I also have a Prince seat and a C2S.

The seat is not a great design and does need the rear seat belt replaced with an extended one. This costs about £60 plus labour for fitting, I understand that it is not to difficult to DIY.

I only use ours very occasionally and would not use it it for regular or long journeys. My daughter is 21 months old and is just big/heavy enough to use it. If you intend regular use I would agree with Dom above and search out a proper alternative.

Good luck.

Would agree, have a 993 and both a Prince seat and a 'Zoom' (which is the booster seat) for my two daughters (one and four). The Prince seems to be mostly useless from a safety point of view, with the only support at the waist level of the child (where the seat belt goes through a strange foam device which sits on the childs lap). If there's something better from independent, then go for it. The Zoom is a lot better, but only really for older children.

Seems to be confusion over seat names and specs

Prince:
is expanded polystyrene one piece shell covered in either teddy bears on blue or more recently grey, black, red (very on brand imo). this comes with a "tray bumber" that fits on the front and is secured with seat belt. It is this bumber that secures your child. It looks unconventional but worked fine for my youngest aged between 1.5 and 3 years
suitable from 9 months to 4 years
this is compatible with 2 or 3 point belt. Porsche won't recommend it for 993 cab although it fits in mine and worked fine.
I found I needed to fabricate a method of fixing the seat so it doesnt tip forward under breaking, not dangerous, just alarming for passenger. I can share the method if you are interested.

Zoom:
Two piece, booster and back element that provides support and 3 point belt guides
suitable for 3 years up (I think)
requires 3 point belt
